Claudia’s Grade 12 Graduation

Claudia had her grade 12 graduation on June 28th at the Hershey Centre (three days later it became the Paramount Fine Foods Centre).

Gillian and Claudia. Angela had to work, so she missed the festivities.

Heading up to the stage for her diploma.

To our surprise, when it came time for the special awards, Claudia’s name was called for The Crusader Award. The Crusader award is presented to a graduating female student who is pursuing college or university education, is a leader or contributor in the school community, and is involved in community events outside of school.

The Crusader Award is donated by the 800 Black Forest Squadron, and it came with a $300 monetary award.

Congratulations Claudia!

Claudia is off to Humber College for Television Broadcasting.

Gillian’s Convocation

Gillian graduated from McMaster University with her Bachelor of Science summa cum laude in Molecular Biology & Genetics Co-op. Convocation was held at First Ontario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place) in Hamilton, Ontario on June 14th, 2018. I was unable to attend, but they live stream and record the convocation on the web. Here is a snippet from the ceremony.

I borrowed these from Gillian’s Instagram post.

Well Done Girls

Congratulations to Angela and Claudia on their terrific report cards. They picked them up today and did very well. Angela finished with an 88% university admission average and Claudia continues to excel with a 85% average.

Claudia is excited for next year as she starts her Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program in Information Communication Technology.

From the school website:

The program is for students in Grade 11 and 12 and is open to all students in university, collage, apprenticeship and workplace pathways. The program involves taking 4 core technology courses, a 2-credit technology coop opportunity, 3 additional elective credits  as well as additional experiential and reach ahead activities and certifications.

Our program is designed to give students additional technology skills and opportunities that are increasingly valuable at post-secondary level and beyond. Our Lady of Mount Carmel has put together an exciting program where students are gaining access to programming in partnerships with numerous local businesses, post-secondary institutions such Sheridan Collage and Guelph Humber as well as industry recognized professionals in the communications industry.

Claudia has a co-op placement at Rogers starting in the fall. It will be an exciting year for her.

Claudia’s Graduation

We had our final Grade 8 graduation at St. Richard School. After 15 years at the school, Claudia has completed grade 8, it started with Gillian entering junior kindergarten back in 1999. Here are the girls outside of the church. I think my lens had some condensation on it because it was so hot out.

Claudia has grown considerably more than either Gillian or Angela. See our photo from Angela’s graduation.

Angela’s Grad Dance

After 10 years at St Richard’s, Angela is graduating this week and heads off to Mt Carmel in the fall. Today was their Grad luncheon and dance. Gillian took some photos of Ang before she left.

Always putting her chores ahead of fun.

Gillian’s Graduation

Today was Gillian’s graduation from Grade 8, in the fall she will be off to Mt Carmel for high school. It just seemed like yesterday, well maybe not yesterday, but it wasn’t too long ago her and Sarah were waiting for the school bus on their first day of junior kindergarten.

Gillian and Sarah

Now here they were getting ready to graduate from Grade 8.

It started with the Graduation Mass, followed by the Ceremony and Awards. Angela was singing in the Graduation Choir and did an excellent job.

Gillian

Actually as Chair of the School Council, I had a role in the ceremony, I was handing out a St Richard pin to each student.

Gillian and I

Gillian surprised us and herself as she was presented with the French Excellence Award. Since I was on the stage, I wasn’t able to get a picture of Gillian accepting her award. Here she is with Mme Bozzo her french teacher who had presented the award.

Gillian and Madame Bozzo

Gillian with her plaque. This year they had to replace the big plaques that hang in the school, so her name is the first to go on it, I told her she’ll be on the wall for at least 15 more years.

Gillian

Of all the awards presented there were only two that came with something extra. She also receive a gift bag with her award. When she got home, she open it to find a nice French-English dictionary. Way to go Gillian!

Gillian

The librarian put together a slideshow of all the kids, first there was a baby picture and followed by their grad photo. Last year they ran into some technical difficulties, so this year she was a little panicked that it would happen again. It turned just fine and evryone enjoyed the show.

Slideshow

There was a surprise guest speaker at the graduation. About half way through Mayor McCallion came into the church and headed to the front. They paused the ceremony and Hazel addressed the students. As usual she gave a great speech to the students. Every year they invite her, but it isn’t often that she shows up due to her busy schedule. Although the last time was only two years ago. What a treat!
