Happy 16th Birthday Claudia! Where has the time gone. Claudia had a couple of friends over to celebrate her special day.
A photo from the archives, this was taken 16 years to the day. It was our first “selfie”, well before selfie’s were a thing. I remember Susan had gone to the washroom and I had Dad’s HP200 1 megapixel camera, so I took a photo of Claudia and I.
Angela has almost reached all of her high school milestones. On Friday it was Prom. Here she is with her boyfriend Dylan.
Can you tell that Dylans boutiniere was broken, they made me put it on and I accidentally snapped the head off the stem. No problem mon, just a little situation. I was able to MacGyver it back together with some pins and according to Angela it lasted the night.
They were going to her friend Dani’s house for pre-prom photos, but we did some pre-pre-prom photos at our house ahead of time.

A group of eight of them were taking a limo to the prom, however the one girl and her boyfriend were late getting to the house so they missed most of the photos.
Susan had taken Angela to their hairdresser Angela in the morning and turned out well. Angela looked great.

The limo was a little late, but did arrive, as did Hailey and her date.
It sounded like they had a good time.
We needed some dead branches trimmed on the maple tree so Claudia volunteered to go up the tree.
Chloe got a haircut and a bath. Then she promptly rolled around in the garden.
After arriving home at 3:30am on Sunday morning from Jamaica, I was back at the airport on Monday morning heading to Fort Smith, NWT, spending the week at Wood Buffalo National Park. The first day on the way to the site we saw 12 black bears (Ursus americanus).
The one bear was grazing at the side of the road and when the truck stopped it came a little closer and sat down and watched us.
We only saw one bison the whole day.
When we arrived at the site a bear came wandering into the clearing.
It spent a couple of hours grazing around the site.
We saw about 4 bears on the way back to town.
One evening we headed down to the Rapids of the Drown to see the American White Pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos).
I had brought my big zoom lens.
They have the second largest average wingspan of any North American bird, after the California condor.
One of the air quality techs from from the Government of the Northwest Territories Environment was down from Yellowknife for the week. He is an avid bird and wildlife photographer.
Sunset over the Slave River. The weather the first two days were sunny and hot, the temperature in Fort Smith when we landed on Monday was 24 degrees C. By Wednesday morning it dropped to 5 degrees C.
There were just as many bears each day we headed out to the site.
We saw a few “brown” black bears or cinnamon bears. That was something to see, it was the first time seeing one.
This one was a darker brown colour.
We even saw a bear up in a tree.
WE stopped at Little Buffalo Falls on the Thursday.
In the spring it is always an impressive waterfall.
It was a good week in Fort Smith, even got some work done. My colleague and I both had our luggage bumped on the flight from Edmonton to Fort Smith on the Monday. The plane was 200 lb over its weight. After they took our names and numbers, I asked if there was any compensation for us, since we didn’t have our bags. The girl came back out with $40 cash each. It bought our beer. Our bags didn’t end up coming until Tuesday afternoon. Looking into the cockpit on the return flight to Edmonton.
Shanna and Jesse arrived back in Toronto from Montego Bay on an earlier flight, so Gillian and Claudia went to pick them up and they stayed at our place. They had a flight Sunday afternoon to Kelowna. The girls with their cousin Jesse.

This time the dark clouds eventually brought some rain with them. As our bus pulled out to head back to the airport, it rained almost the whole way.

Our flight was delayed leaving Jamaica and we landed in Toronto at 2:15 am, due to our delay there was another flight in the customs line so it took longer. By the time we gathered our bags and got a taxi home it was 3:30am. After leaving the 30 degree weather behind in Jamaica, we stepped out of the airport into 3 degree weather, followed by some flurries on Sunday afternoon.
Close to the shore were some reefs that had a lot of fish swimming around.

I took these by holding my camera under the water and randomly taking pictures.
They interrupted the beach volleyball game in the background as a guy climbed the tree to cut down some more coconuts.
The catamaran coming back from Dunn’s River Falls, Brad and Chelsea and their friends were on the boat.
Although the skies were getting dark, I don’t think it actually rained that day.
On Thursday some of us went on a local shopping excursion. The first stop was the Rainbow Stores, really only one big store, the plural refers to the chain of stores. This was the scenery across from the store.
The second stop was the Taj Mahal Shopping Centre, here we are piling out of the bus.

Susan and I were down in Ocho Rios, Jamaica for Brad and Chelsea’s wedding on the beach. In total they had 46 people join them for a week at the Hotel Riu Ocho Rios. I am starting off with the wedding post and later will post photos from other days from our week. As you can see the day they got married was beautiful, sunny and hot.
