Edmonds, WA

There was some time on Thursday after completing our work to take a drive. We didn’t go into Seattle because they had the I-90 closed off for the Blue Angels who were practising for the Seafair Air Show that was happening this weekend. We stayed north of the city and went to Edmonds, WA for lunch and then to Brackett’s Landing Park to walk around.

There were a lot of people crabbing on the pier. Here is a guy setting his trap with raw chicken.

They caught a rock crab, but it must have been too small because they threw it back in the water.

Loading up with more chicken.

After we headed to Discovery Park in Ballard. It had a very confusing trail system and it was also the hottest day so far this summer in Seattle. It got up to 94 degrees fahrenheit. So far they have had 9 days over 90 degrees which was a new record.

Mariners Game

After a hard day of work, down at the Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field. Watching them play the Arizona Diamondbacks with a couple of colleagues on the Review Team.

Bothell, WA

I was out in Bothell, WA last week for work, I was part of an external review team visiting a mercury analytical lab. There were five of us as part of the team, the others were from Denver, CO, Champaign, IL, Jacksonville, FL and Augusta, GA.

Bothell is north of Seattle and only a 15 minute drive from our friends, Nikki and Richard, who live in Woodinville. I was able to spend a couple of nights with them on the weekend. On Sunday morning I got a chance to watch their daughter Sarah ride at a horse show. Here she is in one of the events. She did well overall in about five events.

In the afternoon Richard and I headed to the Seattle Mariners game, they were playing the Toronto Blue Jays. Nikki had picked up tickets ahead of time for us.

Safeco field is an open air stadium, but has a roof that can roll over during inclement weather. Even though it was raining in the morning they had the roof off.

We were sitting down the right field line. There were probably more Blue Jays fans then Mariners fans.

Although it was not a sellout as noted by the empty seats.

This was just after the bizarre triple play by the mariners.

The skies started getting dark, and the roof started to close.

The roof can move fairly quick. The roof just covers the field and stands, it doesn’t seal the stadium.

This is the roof fully closed.

Upgraded…

Arrived at YYZ airport this morning for a noon flight, only to find out it was delayed 90 minutes. Normally not a problem, I’d park myself in the Maple Leaf lounge, however I have a connecting flight in YVR and only 90 minutes to clear customs and find my gate.
The agent put me on stand-by for the 11:15 departure, and I got on AND upgraded to business class.

Backyard Squirrels

There was a squirrel munching away at something in the back garden today. I used the opportunity to play with my Tamron lens. I took these from the kitchen, I was sitting on a chair with the sliding door part way open.

At one point a black squirrel came around and the original squirrel climbed the tree.

The size of the lens is still taking some use to holding, definitely need to practice some more.

The Girls First TFC Game

We headed down to BMO Field at Exhibition Place on Saturday afternoon in the scorching heat. A group from Susan’s office organized the tickets. I have been to a few games with Stam, but Susan and the girls had never been to one. The south end of BMO Field.

There are a number of Pan Am events at Exhibition Place. To the south was the temporary Beach Volleyball stadium. The stadium was packed to see Canada lose to Mexico 2-0.

We only arrived at our seats about 40 minutes before the game, but not much going on around us. We were early enough to get the free Atomic Ant t-shirt (in honour of Sebastian Giovinco).

TFC took the lead at the 29th minute and then quickly followed it up with another goal at the 32nd minute.

Those people in the south end were singing and chanting and flag waving for the entire 90 minutes.

The announced attendance was 25,032, but it looked like far less than that.

It was a good game. I can’t wait for them to re-configure the stadium to accommodate the Toronto Argonauts. It will be good to see them in the open-air stadium.

The game ended 2-1 for Toronto. The Philadelphia Union scored a late goal in extra time. Due to the Pan Am games, they only had two gates open for the game, which meant 25,032 people were all exiting the same way.

I held the camera over my head and took a shot behind, Claudia saw me taking the picture.

I’m guessing this guy was over in the south end for the game. Here he was trying to get the fans going again.

When we came up the on the other side, it was more chaos as the train had come and people were trying to cram on.

If we had enough time we could have got further down to the back of the train and got on easily, but we ended up waiting for the next train.

Notice the one side of the door is closed, the guy in red was holding the door open and trying to get both of them on.

They did manage to get on, but was it worth it?

Better Late Than Never…

On Saturday, Susan and I headed out to the Obon service at Mt Pleasant cemetary, due to the Pan Am Games it was an hour later than usual. Traffic wasn’t bad getting to and from Toronto. While we were waiting Auntie Margie pulled out an envelope and she pulled out a little toy rifle. She handed it to me and said it was mine. I didn’t remember it, but she said she had taken it away from me many years ago (mid 70’s?) and put it somewhere safe. She also had some other toy figurine weapons that she had. Those went to Mark and Carey. Here is the rifle. I’m not sure what action figure it came from. The marking on it is “Hasbro Hong Kong”. Big Jim was made by Mattel, so it was probably a GI Joe accessory. A quick check on the inter-web didn’t give any answers.

It was a hot one today, here is Chloe just basking in the sun.

Claudia’s Soccer Game

Wednesday evening was Claudia’s soccer game, she played mid-field for the first half and played well. Her ball control was really good in this game, I heard the guy next to us tell his wife that number 7 is so smooth when she receives the ball. She played goal in the second half. Here is the only goal she let in, on a free kick, it was just the right arc and height to go over her outstretched hands.

Angela’s Soccer Game

I was able to see half of Angela’s soccer game this week. Claudia also had soccer practice so I had to drop her off and then drive down to watch Ang before heading back for Claudia. I brought my big lens, much to Gillian’s dismay, my paparazzi lens as she calls it. Here are some action photos I got of Angela playing goal. I’m still getting use to the framing with such a big lens. This ball just made it over Angela’s outstretched arms for the first goal.

BBQ at Lori and Dale’s

We headed out to Hamilton on Saturday afternoon for a bbq. Shanna had Claudia, Jesse and Alex playing a game of Hearts. Angela stayed home and had some friends over and the house was still in one piece when we got home.

Alex had never played before and of course beginner’s luck won the game.

Claudia had a good visit with Auntie Shanna and Jesse this trip.

Lily and Kaiden weren’t able to make it to Grandma’s, but Todd was there.

Todd concentrating on the cardboard roll.

A video of Todd. Marley was there as well and is a lot better than she use to be, she is a lot calmer than before and was pretty good with Todd and Chloe.
