My work travel slowed down this winter, in February I only traveled to Pinehouse, Saskatchewan. It was a cold week with temperatures in the minus 25 to 35 in the morning each day.
The Environment Canada weather site had an issue the one morning, for most of the forecasts they were missing the “-” sign in front of their temperatures. According to my BlackBerry, the EC weather.gc.ca site was showing Buffalo Narrows, SK (closest town to Pinehouse) with a temperature of 33.6 degrees C.
We have booked our summer vacation to Prince Edward Island. We are flying to Charlottetown (cashed in my Aeroplan miles) and renting a SUV to tour the island. We are heading back to The Good Cottages where we had stayed in 2012. We are in the Wild Rose cottage as the Oceanview was already booked. We are going for two weeks and Gillian will join us for the second week. Looking forward to beach combing, lobster suppers and exploring parts of the island we didn’t get to last time.
I spent the past week up in the Northwest Territories. A colleague and I were back to our Wood Buffalo National Park site to install satellite communications and modify some of our equipment. We lucked out with the weather, although the Tuesday was about -24° Celsius, on the Wednesday it got up to -6° C. There was about 30cm of snow on the ground. This was the sunrise from the airport taken on the Friday. Sunrise was around 9:00am and sunset at 4:15pm.
We were a little behind in our photos this holiday season. This photo was taken just minutes before we were packing up Gillian to take her back to school. Never the less, Happy New Years to everyone.
We hosted our 4th Annual Skating Party at the Meadowvale Four Rinks.

Our Christmas schedule was a little mixed up, we ended up going to Midnight Mass instead of earlier in the evening. Chloe waiting to open presents.

On Boxing Day we headed out to Mom and Dad’s in Dundas for dinner and some Rummoli with Uncle Ken and Aunt Bev.
We had our Christmas tree up early this year. We went to our usual garden centre to cut down the tree (from the rafters). Once we had it up, Chloe was taking up residence under the tree.

We headed out to Dundas on the weekend before Gillian’s birthday to celebrate, she was able to come home due to her upcoming exams. Not sure what everyone was laughing about.

The girls went out for Halloween. The weather wasn’t great, but they went out on their own.

I was down in Indianapolis this past week for a meeting/scientific symposium. On the Thursday after the meetings had finished, there was an outing to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a tour of the track.
You start with a bus tour that takes you on the track.

After the track tour was a tour of the media centre.
Note the CRT television screens. In this day flat screens, you would think there would be no sign of CRT’s.

Another sign of the times, this is the race control room, beneath all the crt screens, there are vcr’s. The guide said races were recorded on vas, since it would be harder to doctor a vhs tape than a digital file.
After the tour of the track you return to the museum and Hall of Fame.
There a lot of past winning cars on display. Some racing teams do not donate their cars as they like to display in their own museums. One of the race teams that are no where to be seen is Penske.
