Ice Storm 2013 Clean-up

Later in the day we headed back out once the freezing drizzle stopped to survey the damage and clean up. Looking west along Rainwater Drive, this end of the street did pretty good.

The tree next door, Lars was starting to clean it up.

Looking down to the east, that end of the street was hit the hardest out of the sub-division.

Lars trying to pull down one of the broken branches, unfortunately it brought down one of the other branches.

Lars cutting one of the broken branches off.

Neighbours helping neighbours.

This is the tree that broke while we were out earlier.

This is the other end of Rainwater Drive, we counted about 5-6 boulevard trees that will probably be cut down by the city.

This blow up snowman took some collateral damage.

A close-up of Frosty.

Angela breaking ice of the small maple.

Ice on the pine tree out front.

This father and son were surveying the damage with their hard hats on.

Lars trying to get more of the ice off, but getting most of it down his back.

Everyone standing clear of Lars and his ice wielding stick.

A big pile of ice on the road.

More of the plants and bushes covered in ice.

Ice Storm 2013

What did you wake up to this morning? We headed out to church for 8:00 and on our way home we took a drive around the neighbourhood. When we turned down our street, we discovered it was blocked with fallen trees, after turning around and coming in the other way we went for a walk to see the damage. Our neighbour Lars lost a couple of branches.

Looking back to our house.

Around the corner from us we came across the fallen trees.

This tree in front of friends fell over and is totally blocking their driveway.

Another tree blocking the road.

Angela and Claudia in front of the destruction.

As I took this picture, we heard a loud crack…

…and turned around to see the one side of this tree go down…followed by another loud crack…

…only to see the other side go down in front of us.

That is the same tree that is on the right in this picture that I took as we were walking down earlier. You can just see Chloe by the tree, probably going to the washroom.

The ice made for some nice photos.

The ice coated trees in front of our house.

I moved our cars right up to the house just in case our tree decides to come down.

I guess we should heed the Peel Regional Police Twitter feed.

Curling Season

Congratulations to Angela for making the school curling team. She is playing on the Junior Mixed team again this season. All but one girl are back from last year’s team. Angela is throwing vice rocks. They have already played three games and are a perfect 3-0.

Last Trip This (Calendar) Year

I was out to Prince Albert, SK for a quick meeting on a couple of our new sites with Public Works and the engineering consultants. Flew out Tuesday morning, drove to PA and then back to Saskatoon for a return flight the next day. Ended the year with 38 flight segments and 39K qualifying flight miles, good for another year of Air Canada Elite 35K.

Early Happy Birthday Gillian

We headed out to Dundas on the weekend to take Gillian out for dinner for her birthday. Afterwards we had cupcakes.

Chloe looking a lot better with her haircut.

The girls.

Shaggy Dog

We finally got Chloe to the groomers for a haircut. She was a big mop.

Work Travels

The early part of November was busy with work travel, part of the reason for the lack of updates during the month. I had a quick trip out to Nova Scotia on November 3rd for a meeting at Kejimkujik with a concrete contractor on the Monday.

Later that week I was out to Saskatchewan and a trip up to Pinehouse. The temperatures were okay but there was snow on the ground. Things have come to a crawl on getting this site up and running. Now looking at a February install at the earliest.

The following week I was up to Geraldton, ON and a site inspection. The weather was good when I landed in Thunder Bay so I stopped at the Terry Fox Memorial.

There was lots of snow in Geraldton and the temperatures were hovering near zero. The big snowman in Beardmore.

Happy Halloween

Angela and Claudia carved their own pumpkins.

Claudia did an owl on her pumpkin.

Angela carved a Totoro on her pumpkin.

Claudia as some Minecraft dude, her friend Desiree and Angela.

The girls pumpkins lit up.

Congratulations Angela!

It was a busy week for Angela. On Thursday it was the Mount Carmel Academic Awards Assembly at the Church. Angela received her plaque for achieving honours last year. Then on Saturday morning, we were at Our Lady of the Airways in Malton for the 28th Annual Bishop’s Altar Server Awards. There were 46 parishes represented from Toronto-Downsview, Etobicoke, Brampton, Mississauga, Orangeville and Caledon. Bishop Boissonneau presided over the mass. There were 14 priests, 3 deacons and the Bishop on the altar. The awards are sponsored by the Serra Clubs in the GTA. At some point we should receive a photo of the Bishop with the 4 altar servers from St John of the Cross.

Gillian had been considered for the award the past two years but she hasn’t been able to make the ceremony so her name was withdrawn, apparently one of the criteria for being nominated in our parish for the award is whether you can attend the ceremony.

Turkey Overload

We enjoyed a full weekend of turkey, it started on Saturday at home, continued on Sunday at Lori and Dale’s and finished on Monday at Mom and Dad’s in Dundas. On Sunday we finally met Kaiden, Lily’s little brother.

Marley is big now, but still a puppy and getting into trouble.

Kaiden is 3 months old and was good through dinner.

We celebrated Alex’s and Sara’s birthday, Alex is the first two numbers, Sara’s the last two.

Angela enjoyed holding Kaiden.

Lily was just as entertaining.
