We’ll Miss Them

It was a sad day for the girls and Chloe. Our long time caregiver to both the girls and Chloe was packing up their rental truck on Saturday morning. Karen has been looking after the girls since Claudia was 6 months old, Claudia turns ten in a couple of months. Karen has been coming over to let Chloe out in the mornings since last September, on some days Chloe would go over to her house for the day. Chloe will miss her buddy Hailey who she would bug when she was there.

Karen and the Girls

Who are we going to get our renovation ideas from. Karen and Ken have the same style house as us, and when they would change something, we could picture our house looking the same, kind of like having our own model home. They are moving to Milton, so they won’t be that far away. Thanks to Karen, Ken, Stephanie and Ryan for all their help over the years.

Port Credit Walkabout

We headed down to Port Cedit to walk around. Susan wanted to go shopping at a store down there so she dropped the girls and I off.

Map

The girls and Chloe enjoyed the swans.

Swans

Chloe was okay with the swans and ducks, it was the sea gulls hanging around that Chloe was after.

I think Angela was taking a picture of the Toronto skyline.

Angela and Gillian

Claudia brought her bike to ride around and Angela had her roller blades.

Claudia

There was a guy feeding the swans and ducks some bread, actually he had a loaf of bread. He offered Claudia and Angela a slice, to feed the birds, not eat as Claudia would tell you.

Duck

Swan

Angela was trying to feed a dirty looking swan and manage to land the piece of bread on its back. We thought all the other birds would attack it, but it wasn’t until one tried that the swan shook it off into the water.

Not sure if Gillian was pushing or trying to hitch a ride.

Claudia was over at the Canada post.

March Break

The girls were at Grandma’s and Papa’s place for a couple of days during March Break. They went to see Alice in Wonderland with Grandma while they were there.

Gillian was able to hook into one of Grandma’s neighbours wireless signal.

Glad They’re Over…Can’t Wait For The Next Ones

The lack of blog updates through the end of February can be squarely blamed on the Olympics. Actually the lack of anything getting done around the house could be blamed on the Olympics. The girls really enjoyed them and were sad to see them go, okay so was I. Gillian wants to try curling next year at school.

Chloe Update

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Chloe update. She is up to 14 lbs, and Susan thinks she has stopped growing, I think she still has a little more to go. She started out in the bed, but she slowly ended up sleeping on the floor.

Chloe

Chloe

She loves her bucket, this one has cracked, but she still plays with it everyday. We’ll have to look for a new one in the summer.

Chloe and her bucket

What little snow we got this winter sure liked to stick to Chloe. She would come in covered in snow.

Speech Update

While I was away, the flu was going through the girls, and I caught the tail end when I got home. Angela was off early in the week followed by Claudia. Unfortunately this was also the week for the speech competition at school. Both were able to go to school that day and do their speeches in the gym, but they weren’t 100%. Neither Claudia or Angela placed, but Susan said they did an excellent job, and Susan was the only parent there who had two kids in the gym.

The Rock in February and Happy to Be Off!

I spent the first week of the Olympics in Stephenville Newfoundland. It was bad enough trying to stay awake in Mississauga with the 3 hour time difference, try the 4.5 hour difference. Suprisingly, the winter out there has been similar to ours, a little bit more snow, but not as much as usual.

I was scheduled to be back early Friday morning, things were going to plan, settled into my priority seat. There were electrical problems with the system, so they tried the Airbus equivalent of the Ctrl-Alt-Del. After a few attempts, they announced the flight was cancelled. When they cancel a flight due to plane problems in Toronto, they just shuffle things around and voila, a new plane, you’re good to go. In Deer Lake, when they cancel a direct flight back to Toronto on an Airbus 319, you’re pretty much screwed as there are no other planes.

Eventually they re-booked us on a 12:15 pm flight to Toronto, not bad, only about six hours to wait. Through the morning, things got worse, 12:15 turned into 13:00, than 14:00, then 14:45 and finally 15:15.

Delayed flights

There was some consolation when they announced over the PA that the plane had left Montreal. The ground technician covering up the engines, as they were expecting some weather to pass through.

Cancelled flight

It was almost 12 hours later than my original arrival time, but it was good to be home. A lot of people on the flight were going to destinations beyond Toronto, so they were scrambling to rebook their connecting flights. Many were going to the Olympics and down south. When the second plane arrived, it was starting to look like Pearson.

Way to go Angela!

Angela is also going on to the gym for the speech arts competition. Her and Claudia will be in the same division. Angela’s speech is on genetically modified foods. Unfortunately I’m in Newfoundland next week and will miss them. Their speeches are on Thursday morning. Good Luck to both of them.

Way to go Gillian!

Gillian got her report card today for her first semester and she did great. She worked hard and it paid off with a 90 average. She has started second semester and has English, Science, Geography and Business.

Way to go Claudia!

Claudia was one of two kids in her class who were chosen to go on to the gym for the speech competition. Her speech was on the World’s Fastest Things. She has some time to practice and memorize her speech.
