Kudos to Gillian!

Half way through our trip we got word from Gillian that Chloe had been sprayed by a skunk. As it was late at night, she enlisted help from the internet, Marcus and Brittany. Together they figured it out.

It took a couple of washes to get her less smelly. She washed her bedding and kept her confined to her kennel for the first couple of days. Once we got home I gave Chloe a haircut and trimmed off most of her shaggy hair.

Honda Indy Free Day

Angela, Dylan (Angela’s boyfriend) and I went down to the free day at the Honda Indy. the weather forecast was hot and sunny. Gillian was working and Claudia was at Auntie Carolyn’s. This year they had scheduled a race on Saturday and Sunday. Due to the wet weather they ended up postponing Saturday’s race until Sunday morning and then running the second race in the afternoon. Here is the winner of the second race, Mike Conway.

The winner of the first race was Sebastien Bourdais.

Local favourite, James Hinchcliffe.

He didn’t fare as well in either race.

One of my favourite drivers, Helio Castroneves of Brazil. He finished second in the first race and 12th in the second. He is the current points leader in the Indy standings.

After the practice session we had lunch and then headed over to Turn 3 to watch some of the other series practice sessions.

We didn’t make it down last year and one major change now is they charge $35 to access the Indy Car Paddock area, it use to be free as well. Even without access anymore, the free day is still a good chance to see the cars and drivers up close. We didn’t stick around for the second practice session for the Indy cars. We beat the rush hour and headed back to the car at Clarkson station. It is good the trains run every 30 minutes now.

Claudia’s Soccer Game

Wednesday nights are Claudia’s soccer games. With all my travel this spring/summer I haven’t been able to catch to many of her games. The last game I took her to only Claudia and one of the coach’s daughters showed up. It was a rainy night, there were exams and grade eight graduations going on.

Claudia played forward and mid field.

Here she is trying to clear the ball from the front of her goal.

Her team took the early lead 1-0, but the yellow team tied it up on a sloppy play in front of their own goal.

Angela’s Clean Sheet

Angela played keeper tonight at her soccer game and had a clean sheet. Here she is making an early save in the first half.

Angela’s team was up 2-0 at the half.

I took Chloe for a walk around the field and stopped to take a photo from behind the net.

20140630_D7K_2942

The ball had just rung off the crossbar after a corner kick for the red team.

20140630_D7K_2943

Angela’s team only had 9 players, the red team had 17 players, by the end of the second half they were getting tired. This action was from another red corner kick, Angela bobbled the initial play.

20140630_D7K_2944

She recovered to grab the ball but in the process took a knee to her shoulder. It was a great game for Angela and they won 2-0.

Claudia’s Grad Luncheon & Dance

Today was Claudia’s graduation luncheon and dance. Due to the small class size (33 students) they now have it at the school. Gillian took some great photos of Claudia and then drove her to school.

Claudia’s Graduation

We had our final Grade 8 graduation at St. Richard School. After 15 years at the school, Claudia has completed grade 8, it started with Gillian entering junior kindergarten back in 1999. Here are the girls outside of the church. I think my lens had some condensation on it because it was so hot out.

Claudia has grown considerably more than either Gillian or Angela. See our photo from Angela’s graduation.

The school trustee, Esther O’Toole, gave a nice speech to the graduates before the mass. She was trying to attend four graduations in one night.

After they handed out the 33 diplomas, they handed out the awards. To our surprise, Claudia was awarded the Catholic Leadership Award. Here she is receiving her loot, in addition to her plaque, she also received a framed certificate and a bible.

The Catholic Leadership Award is given to one student who best exemplifies the values of Christian relationship and attitude toward the Church, school and community. This student lives his/her daily life guided by these finest qualities of Catholicity. Here is Claudia with the School Council Chair, Mrs Jordan and Mr Wu.

We are very proud of Claudia’s accomplishments this year.

Claudia and Mrs Foster, Claudia had Mrs Foster for grade 6, she is another teacher who taught all three girls, the first was Gillian in grade 1.

A job well done Claudia! Mom and Dad are very proud of the fine young lady you have become.

World Cup

We have been following the World Cup group stage games and the girls have been watching whenever they can. We watched the Japan vs Ivory Coast game outside in the backyard along with a fire.

It was pretty good, except for the final score. Ivory Coast beat Japan 2-1.

Backyard Happenings

Some photos from the backyard recently. Angela and Claudia were playing badminton and Chloe was watching (waiting) for the birdie. As soon as it hit the ground she would grab it and take off.

The girls are pretty good now, so the birdie doesn’t hit the ground as often.

Our lilac bush has finally bloomed and with it has attracted the bees and butterflies.

The bees were busy.

The Region of Peel offers free landscape consultations to residents. It is called Fushion Landscaping. During the consultation they show you ways to create a modern, environmentally-friendly space and give you a personalized garden plan and plant list. They also give you some free stuff. Since we took the play structure down we have been thinking about how to make some changes to the backyard. Stay tuned.

Voting For The First Time

Gillian and I went to the advance poll this morning to cast our votes in the June 12th Ontario Election. I will be in the Northwest Territories that week and Gillian is not on the voter’s list, so it was better to get her on now rather than wait for election day. Here is Gillian after voting at the Returning Office.
