Encarnacion Bobblehead Day

We headed down to Rogers Centre early on Sunday morning for the Blue Jays game against the New York Yankees. It was Edwin Encarnacion bobblehead day so the crowds were lining up early.

We weren’t sure what this guy was suppose to be dressed up as, he had a crown (homemade), a cape (a blanket), a shield (out of cardboard) and blue hair.

After we got in, we looked back out and there was still a line.

There are three bobblehead days this year, we have tickets to all of them.

Our seats were in section 517, third row.

Grand Slam of Curling

Gillian and Angela had the opportunity to go to the Grand Slam of Curling Player’s Championship with their school curling team. This years event was at Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre at the old Maple Leaf Gardens. Claudia wanted to go, so I bought tickets for the two of us and we headed down as well. The corner of Carleton and Church. We went into the Loblaws to buy some snacks.

The main entrance on Carleton.

There is an NHL sized hockey rink on the third level. The facility can seat 2,539 people. Seating is mainly on the east and west sides, with a couple of rows of end balcony seats.

The Players Championship is the world’s 15 highest ranked men and 15 highest ranked women curlers competing for high stakes, but more importantly for some of the Canadian teams a berth in the Olympic Trials in Winnipeg in December.

We were there for the 7th and 8th draws. Here is Team Howard warming up.

Manitoba’s Chelsea Carey.

Team Koe’s Rycroft and Simmons.

Mirjam Ott of Switzerland, Kevin Koe and Glenn Howard.

Team Gushue, they played Team Howard in the feature game. Team Howard won 5-4.

Brad Gushue.

Kevin Koe lost to Team Frans 7-6 in extra ends.

Jennifer Jones watching the action.

After each draw they kick everyone out of the seating area.

Warm-ups for the 8th draw.

Rachel Homan and Heather Nedohin were playing on the far sheet.

Claudia had a good time, any time you get off school is a good time.

Team Jones beat Team Tirinzoni (SUI) 8-6.

Claudia and I moved down to sit in the first row. Nkeiruka Ezekh of Team Sidorova of Russia.

2013 World Champion Eve Muirhead.

Stephanie Lawton of Saskatchewan defeated Team Muirhead 7-5.

Team Jones third Kaitlyn Lawes.

We had a good time, our seats were up in the end balcony right above Claudia’s head. It gave you a good view down the sheets of ice. It was kind of tricky figuring out how to get there initially and to get food or go to the washroom you had to go out and then go to the side areas. For the second game we had a waitress come around and take orders.

Afterwards the Mount Carmel curling team got to meet Team Middaugh, the lead for the team is Leigh Armstrong who one of the coaches knows well.

They sign autographs for the kids who bought scarves.

Angela and Gillian came with Claudia and I instead of going back on the school bus. We walked down to Yonge to have dinner at Kenzo, the Japanes noodle house on Dundas, west of Bay St.

We stopped at Dundas Square to watch Billions Cobra a street performer.

He uses fire in his show, he starts with some juggling.

Then moves up to a flaming bull whip.

And his grand finale is fitting his body through a tennis racquet on fire.

A little contortion juggling.

The flaming tennis racquet.

Rattray Marsh Clean-up 2013

Today was the annual clean-up at the Rattray Marsh. There were a lot of volunteers helping out.

Angela and Claudia’s Pathfinder group were one of the volunteer groups.

This was definitely a rubber boots activity.

Each year we have been doing this, there seems to be less and less garbage, or other people are getting there earlier.

I added a new plug-in today called Image Wall. This plugin allows visitors to browse posts or pages by their images, displayed randomly on an infinitely scrollable Image Wall. The images link back to the post or page on which they are attached. The image wall is available on the left side-bar menu under Pages, Image Wall.

Curling Final 2….continued

Congratulations to Angela and her junior mixed curling team. They won a nail-biter in the final played this afternoon at the Brampton Curling Club. It was a close game that came down to the last rock. It has been four weeks since they were originally scheduled to play. Here they are shaking hands after after watching their opponents last rock miss its mark. The final score was 4-3 in six ends.

Receiving congratulations from Mrs. Giovino.

The final score, St Michael stole one in the third and fourth ends, but Mount Carmel stole one in the sixth and final end. Angela’s skip called a good game and made a great shot in the fifth end to setup a draw for 2 points to tie the score heading into the final end.

Good (Old Hockey Game) Friday

We headed out to Carolyn and Danny’s for Easter dinner, as has become tradition it involved a game of road hockey. Here’s Brad unsuccessfully trying to go 5-hole on Alex.

There was a tune-up game before dinner and another one that followed dinner, although we were moving a little slower.

Final score was 10-9 for Team Brad, Eric, Uncle Richie against Team Alex, Emi, Claudia, Angela, Uncle Danny.

Also on tap was a celebration of 60 years for Danny, here he is putting on his birthday bling.

Anyone needing drywall work done? Danny now has all the right tools and then some.

Happy Birthday Danny!

Lily waiting for cake.

We also sang Happy Birthday to Angela.

Thanks to Carolyn and Danny for a great dinner.

Spring Cut

I finally took Chloe in for a haircut, as always she was turning into a shaggy mop and with the spring melt, it was making for a messy dog after she came in from outside. The before….

…and the after.

She was a tired pup after coming home.

Up on her favourite perch.

Happy Birthday Angela!

Angela had a few of her girlfriends over on Saturday night to hang out.

She had a hard time trying to blow out her three candles, because she was laughing so hard.

Here she is opening a few presents this morning.

Since the penny has been phased out Susan put a nickel in the wallet. That led to Angela remembering when she lost her first tooth and she got 25¢ under her pillow, all excited, only to find out her friends at school were getting $5 under their pillows.

Shaggy Chloe letting out a yawn, she is booked for the groomers on Thursday.

Sisters in their silly hats.

Claudia and I made the cake, but Claudia did all of the icing and decorating.

Some of the ducks are starting to lose parts of their heads to the repeated heat.

Happy Birthday Angela! You’re turning into a fine young lady, you make us proud!

From Curling to Badminton

Congratulations to Angela who made the Junior Badminton team at school. The season is starting to ramp up, with practices three times a week.
