We’re Of The Same Blood

I’ve been working on another website for sharing family information. It is called wereofthesameblood.ca. It is another medium for sharing information other than Facebook. Information on The Facebook comes and goes so quickly, it would be nice to have it in one place without weeding through a bunch of other posts. Currently it is focused on the descendants of Kameso Okashimo, but it will be expanded to cover the Tanabe side as well. I have put the family tree information behind password protected pages.

RIP Wendell

Sad news to pass along, Shanna, David and Jesse’s dog, Wendell passed away yesterday. Here are a few pictures of Wendell. In 2005, Wendell had the cone of shame on as he photobombed Claudia and Jesse’s picture.

Out at Shanna and David’s cabin, Wendell resting on Angela’s lap.

He sure enjoyed the attention from the girls on that trip.

RIP Wendell.

Happy Birthday Angela!

We headed out to Dundas on Saturday to celebrate Angela’s milestone birthday.

Susan baked the cake and Claudia and Gillian decorated it.

Chloe being a good girl.

Playoff Hockey

We went to watch the Mississauga Steelheads first playoff game against the Ottawa 67’s. The Steelheads won the game 6-1.

After the third goal.

It was another free popcorn game.

Fear the Fish

On Sunday we headed to the Hershey Centre to watch the Mississauga Steelheads play the Niagara Ice Dogs with Shanna and Jesse. Claudia was volunteering with Rogers. This was their second last game of the regular season, Mississauga has clinched the Central Division Title.

The first goal by the Steelheads.

It was a scrappy game with a few fights.

The Ice Dogs use to be the Mississauga Ice Dogs when they joined the league and were owned by Don Cherry.

Rookie Jacob Ingham had an excellent game stopping 33 and named the 1st star.

The Ice Dogs goalie was yanked after giving up 5 goals.

Nathan Bastian scoring the 6th goal. He then proceeded to cross check one of the Ice Dogs.

Aaron Haydon took exception to the hit and went after Bastian.

Bastian received two minors (cross-checking and unsportsmanlike) and a major for fighting.

Hayden ended up with a minor for instigating, a major for fighting, and two game misconducts (instigator and persisting to fight).

Susan, Shanna and Jesse.

Jacob Ingham was also named OHL Player of the Week.

Susan and I are going to try and get to one of the playoff games this week.

Happy Birthday Dad!

On Saturday we headed out to Lori’s and Dale’s for G-pa’s 88th birthday party. We ordered chinese food and Brad and Chelsea were making sushi. Somehow Brad got out of actually making sushi as Chelsea, Melissa and Claudia did all the hard work.

My buddy Bear.

As long as he was sitting with his grandma or grandpa he was happy.

Chloe was good as usual.

Brad and Bear.

Mounds of sushi.

Chloe and Todd eating dinner together.

The sushi turned out well, it was delicious.

The food has arrived.

Bear wearing Kaiden’s hat and tie.

Angela missing Chloe.

Claudia brought the Rumoli board.

Time for birthday cake.

G-pa with enough lung power to blow out the candles.

Lily and her new favourite Jesse.

You think we would learn and do the photos sooner than later. Sara, Brent and Bear had already left. Danny and Emi didn’t make it due to hockey, so it wasn’t quite the whole gang.

After the grandkids, it was family photo time, however we don’t all fit on the couch.

And then Chloe jumped up to get in the picture.

I was still squished, so Shanna and I headed for the back row.

Happy Birthday Mom and Dad!

Florida Work Trip

Work took me to Florida for the March Break, I flew into Gainesville, FL through Atlanta. A colleague and I were visiting the Amec Foster Wheeler laboratory on the Tuesday. Then it was a drive over to Jacksonville Beach for 2 days of meetings.

It was a cold week in Florida, the temperature never got over 10 degrees C, and the one night they issued a frost warning.

The meetings were at the Courtyard Marriot in Jacksonville Beach.

On Thursday it was back to Gainesville to catch our flight back on Friday morning.

The Hippodrome State Theatre.

Despite the chilly temperatures, it still beat the snowstorm that dumped on Mississauga and the GTA.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Shanna and Jesse came in for a visit, they arrived on the 9th and are here until the 21st. The first weekend we headed into Scarborough for some lobster dinner.

Chloe checking out the lobster.

Dad enjoying the first lobster to come out.

This was my lobster.

Gillian digging into her lobster.

Mom and Dad enjoying dinner.

Shanna and Carolyn,

Danny, in between his play by play commentary of his dinner.

Happy Birthday G-ma!

Mississauga Steelheads Game

On Family Day we were at the Mississauga Steelheads hockey game. Susan had purchased tickets through work in support of United Way. Claudia was volunteering with Rogers, so it was Angela, Dylan, Susan and I. Gillian, being a federal government worker didn’t get the day off (I had to use a vacation day).

Claudia was working the wide camera, hard to see her through the mesh, but she is to the left of centre near the top.

The Steelheads were playing the Owen Sound Attack.

During the first intermission, I went up to see Claudia, you can see Dylan, Angela, and Susan in their seats in the middle of the photo.

Claudia manning her camera.

Angela is on her Reading Week.

The game was tied 3-3 heading into the third period.

With about 6 minutes left, the Steelheads took a 4-3 lead.

Claudia said we were on television, she said she had zoomed in on us, and then the producer said to keep it on us, then the commentators mentioned we were the family of one of the volunteers and then they segued into Family Day.

The Steelheads added an empty net goal for a final score of 5-3.

Scotties Tournament of Hearts

The girls and I had a good day at Draws 3 and 4 at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines. The first draw started at 9:30 am.

The defending champion, Team Canada skip Chelsea Carey.

Gillian’s favourite curler, Rachel Homan.

Last years runner-up Krista McCarville from Northern Ontario.

We saw Gillian’s and Angela’s curling coach from their days at Mount Carmel. Mr Young retired a couple of years ago and volunteering at a Canadian championship was on his bucket list. We went down after the final game of Draw 4 and the girls were able to say hi. He told the girls he bought a 32 ft sail boat and he invited the family to go out this summer. He gave us his telephone number and just told us to give him a couple of days notice.

Facing Team Homan in Draw 3 was Team Mallet from British Columbia.

A break between ends.

On the next sheet was Northern Ontario against Quebec, at one point the two rocks were so close, it took two officials to measure and come up with the same result, they couldn’t determine which was closer. In the end Northern Ontario took a steal of 1 and Quebec was 2nd shot.

Team Quebec skip Eve Bélisle. In the end Quebec lost 9-4 to Northern Ontario.

Keeping an eye on Chelsea Carey. They won 6-4 over Nova Scotia.

On the button.

Emma Miskew, the third for Team Homan, Ontario defeated BC 9-3.

It was chilly inside the arena.

Hans Madsen from Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He attends almost every major curling event and is known for colouring his beard the colours of the team he is cheering for, usually a different team each draw.

Shannon Kleibrink, the skip for Team Alberta.

Team Newfoundland and Labrador.

Their skip is Stacie Curtis.

Kerry Galushsa, the skip for Team Northwest Territories. They had to win the pre-qualifying event yesterday to get into the main draw. Next year they are expanding the field to 16 teams, so every province and territory, along with Team Canada, Northern Ontario and one other team will be in the field.

Heather Nedohin is the alternate for Team Alberta, in Draw 4 she was playing first stones. She is there as a backup for Kleibrink who has been having back issues since the provincial playdowns.

Sarah Fullerton, the third for Team PEI. They were playing Team Ontario and ended up losing 8-3.

Lesley Wilson, the second for Team Manitoba. They had a good day winning both of their draws.

There was a panda in the crowd from Quebec.

I can now add the Scotties to my list of major curling championships. I went to the Brier in 2011 with Gillian and the school curling teams when it was held in London, ON. The same year I attended the World Men’s Curling Championship in Regina, SK. Last year Gillian and I saw the Ontario Scotties in Brampton, ON. We have attended three Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Championships in Toronto and I saw the Northern Ontario Senior Men’s Provincial Curling Championship in Geraldton, ON in 2013. My missing championship is the Woman’s Worlds. In 2018 they are being held in North Bay, ON, we might have to do a road trip. Next year will also see the WFG Continental Cup move from Las Vegas to London, ON.
