Claudia’s Recital

There was a student recital for The Guitar World. Students could sign up and play in the recital. Claudia’s teacher talked her into doing the recital, he was going to try and find someone to sing with Claudia. When we showed up, she wasn’t sure if she would be playing, but her teacher found another student who agreed to sing with Claudia.

There were guitar, vocal, and piano students. Angela was at Pathfinder camp this weekend so she couldn’t participate. This kid played Detroit Rock City by KISS on his electric guitar.

It was held at Heritage Glen, a retirement residence in Meadowvale. There were a few residents in the crowd, and Claudia said one of them wasn’t that kind with their words when one of the piano students messed up her piece.

Claudia played “Mean” by Taylor Swift. Another girl who was performing two songs at the recital (one of which was another Taylor Swift song) agreed to sing with Claudia. Here is Claudia, Natasha, and Claudia’s teacher Dion. Claudia did a great job, well done!

At the end a bunch of Dion’s students played some Blues, by the end a couple of the other teachers came up and were jamming together.

It was a good afternoon, this was the third recital that Guitar World has done, Angela said she would play at the next one.

The owner of Guitar World, Jim Toris. They will be having their 10th Annual Rock n Roll Party in the parking lot on Sunday August 26th.

Happy Birthday Claudia!

Claudia turned 12 today.

It was a good birthday week for Claudia.

Jays Game

We headed down to the Blue Jays game on Sunday. It was Brandon Morrow Bobblehead Day against the New York Mets. The crowds weren’t as busy as last year when it was Robbie Alomar Day.

This guy had a baseball hat on, no really it was a baseball hat, his sister had Mickey Mouse ears with a baseball theme.

It was a great day and the roof was open. Our seats were in the fourth row in the 500 level and it just so happened that the bank of lights shielded us from the sun all afternoon.

We met Carolyn, Danny, Alex and Emi at the game, they had bought the tickets next to us.

It was a good game.

Encarnacion went 0-5 with 2 strikeouts.

Jose Bautista hitting his 11th home run of the season.

Can you see Claudia on the big screen?

Unfortunately the Jays came up short and lost 6-5, the attendance was 41, 857, the bobble heads were given out to the first 20,000.

Elvis outside the stadium.

The final box score.

Regina, SK

Spent the week out at our site south of Regina. The weather was good, sunny and no rain.

Went into Rouleau for lunch one day. They have turned the old Corner Gas building from the series into a tourist store. It now sells souvenirs, and they have brought some of the set from the Regina sound stage to the store.

It has been relatively dry the last couple of weeks.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to Susan and all the Moms.

May @ MAC

McMaster University had an open house this weekend for prospective students. It is geared towards those students who have received offers and need to make up their minds or visit the different residences. We took Gillian to see the campus and visit the health sciences program. Angela was along for the ride and Claudia was at Guide camp at African Lion Safari. The girls in front of one of the buildings that wasn’t there when Susan and I attended Mac.

Heading towards one of the new residences (again new to us). Passing by the “new” football stadium. We were able to see some of the residences and sit in on a talk by the assistant dean of Health Sciences. It will be a lot of hard work ahead for Gillian. The girls were able to see the residence I lived in and the hill I traybogganed down in the winter.

We ended the afternoon with lunch at Tally Ho, another favourite of ours back in the day.

Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball

Claudia and I headed down to Christie Pits to see the Toronto Maple Leafs season opener.

It was a great day weather wise for baseball at Dominico Field.

They were playing the Ottawa Fat Cats.

The price is right, there is no cost, the programs are also free. The hotdogs are a reasonable $3 and there is a 50/50 draw for some good prizes.

Claudia enjoying the game.

There was a lot of action, especially on the base paths.

The great thing is being able to walk right up to the fence and watch or planting yourself on the grass up the hill.

Toronto won the game 6-4.

Angela’s Confirmation

Angela had her Confirmation today. Steve stepped in to be Angela’s Sponsor.

Angela, Claudia and Gillian.

Her cake from the Sweetness Bakery in Dundas.

Dessert time!

Congratulations Angela!

Portland, Oregon

I was down in Portland, Oregon this week for a technical meeting. I flew from Toronto to Vancouver and then down to Portland. Waiting in Vancouver for my puddle jumper connection.

Flying over Mount St. Helens.

Downtown Portland from my hotel room.

Went for lunch to Milos Cafe, there was a mini protest at the recruiting center next door. I think they were protesting Private Manning’s arrest. He was the one who passed along classified material to Wikileaks.

All around downtown Portland they have these food vendors, kind of like chip trucks, but you can get anything from sushi, indian, mexican and on and on.

The Zoobomb pile of bikes. Zoobomb is a weekly event where participants carry their bikes on the Max Light Rail to a station near the Oregon Zoo. From there, participants take the elevator to the surface and then ride their bikes down the hills in the vicinity. This process is often repeated several times throughout the night. This pile of bikes is the local meeting place.

The mall near the hotel had an ice rink in it. The other thing it had was carpet throughout the mall.

Outside one of the entrances.

A closer look at the sign.

The Max is Portland’s light rail transit. There is an area in the downtown core where it is free to ride. The cost from the airport to downtown is about $2.50.

Had the chance to go and see the Portland Winterhawks play the Tri-City Americans in game 3 of their WHL western semi-finals. The game was at the Rose Garden, the same place the NBA Portland Trailblzers play.

The announced attendance was about 7,750 people for a major junior hockey game, the atmosphere was crazy.

Portland won the game 3-1 to take a 3-0 series lead. They would go on to win the series the next night.

They went on to the WHL finals against the Edmonton Oil Kings. They lost the series 4-3 and a chance at the Memorial Cup. Derrick Puoliot went 8th overall in this years NHL entry draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was part of the trade that sent Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Kinghurst

I was out to the Owen Sound area for a couple of days, should be my last time for awhile. With a hiring of new techs back in February, some of my travel should decrease. Not necessarily the number of days, but the number of sites. There were a lot of garter snakes around the site.

A rusted out gas can, it continues to sit in the grass as it provides a habitat for the snakes.

We had a good day of weather.
