Christmas Morning

The girls were up early this morning.

 Chloe opening the first present.

Angela giving her a hand, this is her third alligator and may be her last as it was marked down to $1.87 at PetSmart.

 The excitement on Angela’s face.

 Gillian with an iPod speaker.

Claudia was the first one through all her presents.

Angela with her giraffe hat and mitts.

Susan with her Kobo e-reader.

Chloe with her stuffing-less fox.

Five More Days!

Early Christmas Dinner

We headed down to Dundas for an early Christmas dinner. Jeannette and Rachel are heading to Australia for a month and leave before Christmas, so we all got together before they left. When we got to Dundas, the girls wanted to go the the Sweetness Bakery. The bakery caters to the peanut/nut free consumer.

The peanut free sticker on the door.

Susan’s mom had catered the turkey dinner and we ate in the community room. There were 18 of us including Uncle Ken, Aunt Bev and Auntie Gert. A picture of Eric playing with the name card holders, probably before he broke one of them. Of course Eric being Eric, hides the broken evidence in his pocket only to have the pieces jab him in the leg later on.

The grandkids.

We bought Chloe some dessert at Bark & Fitz in Dundas. She had a cupcake.

The kids like to play poker when they get together.

The original Swan’s.

The Swan-Tanabe’s. Thanks to Auntie Gert for taking the picture.

It takes a few shots to get the one above.

Chloe jumped off before the final picture, but for a brief moment she was in Grandma’s lap.

Usually it is the younger generation with their heads buried in their phones and technology.

More Uncle Tak in the news.

I found this article on cbc.ca about his retrospective showing at the Burnaby Art Gallery.

The article mentions that the show will be travelling to the McMaster University Art Gallery in the new year. As soon as I can find out the dates, I’ll post it. As well he will be having a show at the Mira Godard Gallery in Toronto from Jan 28-Feb 18, 2012. Here are the girls with Uncle Tak at his last show in 2010.

Six Decades of Uncle Tak

I received this newspaper article from Shanna today, she had it sent to her from a friend. Click on the article to open the PDF.

Wasn’t I Just There…

I had a quick trip to Regina this week, flew out on Tuesday morning on the first direct flight and back the next morning. Even though I was just there two weeks ago, I was sent back for a meeting at the site. There is a good chance I’ll be there again in the new year to do some training. The weather was good, at least for Regina in December. There was no snow and the roads were frozen and firm. My ride for the day, a Dodge Avenger.

Every time I drive by these trucks I take a picture, they haven’t changed and they haven’t moved in all the years I have been coming here.

On my way to the site I spotted a Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca), knowing from past sitings that they don’t tend to move very much, there was a good chance it would be there when I left. Sure enough he was on the pole. As I slowed down he flew from one pole to the next pole.

Eventually he tired of me and took off for the original pole.

Santa Visit

The girls and I headed to the Erin Mills Town Centre to see Santa. It turned out to be pet night with Santa, so there were all kinds of dogs waiting in line. Us and the family in front of us were some of the few without their dogs. It was the same Santa as last year.

Around The House

Some pictures from today. It’s nice being able to see Chloe’s face.

Not sure what she is looking at or thinking about.

Hershey Centre Family Day

Last night while Claudia and I were out we saw a sign for free skating at the Hershey Centre today. It was Free Family Day at the Hershey Centre including skating on the rink, free hot dogs, pepsi products and popcorn. It went from 12-4 pm, we got there around 12:45pm and it was empty. We had our hot dog and drink before skating, not many people on the ice.

Claudia waiting for the zamboni to finish flooding the ice.

The Zamboni.

Even after the flood, there still weren’t a lot of people. Just before the flood there were some of the Mississauga St Mike’s Majors on the ice. There was no sign of Hazel at the rink, but we left around 2:30 pm.

Claudia standing near centre ice. Angela is at Pathfinder winter camp this weekend and Gillian stayed home, so it was just the three of us.

Enjoying our popcorn in the stands.

The portrait of the Queen hangs prominently in the arena.

Chloe’s Christmas Do

Chloe went to the groomers today for a long overdue trim. She was one shaggy dog, and we have been lucky that we haven’t had a lot of wet snow. Here she is before her appointment.
