Leafs Lose Another One

I had the opportunity to head down to the Air Canada Centre with Stam to see the Leafs take on the Phoenix Coyotes. The tickets he had were for the 12th row in the golds. It had been awhile since we had gotten together. I haven’t been to a Leaf game since the ACC first opened. Some of the activity you don’t see when you watch the game on television. At every commercial break, three guys come out at each end and shovel the excess ice from around the creases.

The other noticeable difference is how big some of these guys are on the ice.

The Leafs fell behind 2-0 in the first five minutes, but Scrivens played well after that and even though they trailed 2-0 at the start of the third period, they were carrying the play. They eventually tied it up to send it to overtime.

Carlton the Bear (is he still called Carlton, even though they are on Bay now?)

There was some good play during overtime, but it went to a shootout and the Leafs lost it 2-0 in shootouts.

Joussard Alberta

I was out in Alberta to meet with a consultant doing an ESA on one of our new monitoring sites near Joussard, AB. Joussard is about 30 km east of High Prairie and 80 km west of Slave Lake. It was a flight from Toronto to Calgary to meet up with a colleague and then a Dash-8 to Grande Prairie. From there is was another 3 hour drive.

The weather wasn’t cooperating with us. It snowed the first night in High Prairie, by morning it was slush and ice mix. Then it rained throughout the day, even hailing at one point. Would have preferred some sub-zero temperatures and snow. In the end the job got done. Looking north along Range Road 132 towards Lesser Slave Lake.

Hurrrrry

Congratulations to Gillian, she made the Senior Mixed Curling team at school. Some curling humour to start the season.

Happy Halloween!

The girls had a good time Trick or Treating. Here they are before going out, Claudia was a leprechaun, Angela was a 50’s diner lady and Gillian was dressed as Luigi. Gillian stayed home this year to help Susan shell out the candy to roughly all 30 kids.

Chloe was dressed up as a ghost.

Pumpkin Carvers

Today the girls spent a couple of hours working on their pumpkins. We picked them up a couple of weeks ago when they were on sale at Superstore for $1.97.  There was a time when I use to carve three pumpkins, now I just provide guidance to the girls. They still talk about two years ago when we got to busy and didn’t get pumpkins that year.

I still cut the tops off the pumpkins with the big knife.

Angela getting right into her pumpkin.

Claudia getting a little more leverage from above.

The pumpkin guts bowl.

Chloe wondering what all the excitement is.

Gillian taking a break from homework to carve her pumpkin.

Claudia transferring her pattern to the pumpkin.

Gillian attaching her pattern. We still use some old carbon paper we have, one day we’ll run out and then we’ll be in trouble. Do they even make black carbon copy forms anymore?

Angela’s pattern.

Angela wearing her pumpkin carving hat.

Next step was to score the pumpkin skin to prepare it for scraping off the skin.

Chloe outside, no longer wondering what all the excitement is.

Gillian catching up.

Angela wearing her pattern mask.

Gillian scoring her pumpkin.

Claudia finished carving her pumpkin and putting some vaseline on to keep it from shrivelling up.

Gillian still at it.

Angela doing some of the detailed carving.

Applying the finishing touches.

The final product. Angela carved Totoro, Gillian did the Angry Bird and Claudia carved Mario. They did a great job on their pumpkins.

Mount Brydges Area

This week I was down in the London area for a couple of days. I was doing a site audit of our site near Mount Brydges. It is located at the Longwoods Road Conservation Area.

Found this old tractor growing out of the ground.

Huntsville Area

I was up in the Huntsville area for a couple of days for work this week. We have a site near Sprucedale, ON.

Most of the leaves had already turned and fallen off. This is Buck Lake along the Ravenscliffe Rd out of Huntsville.

Some mailboxes at the corner of Stisted Rd and Concession 4.

University Fair

On Saturday we took Gillian and a couple of her friends down to the Metro Convention Centre for the Ontario Universities Fair.

She still has a year to decide, but it was a good opportunity to ask some questions and maybe steer herself in the direction she wants. Angela was there to pickup some university swag. The place was packed and some universities were almost impossible to get into the booths, one of them was Waterloo, Angela and I had to fight our way in to pick up some different coloured buttons from each of the programs. Claudia was up north at a cottage for her 3rd year Guide Weekend.

Congratulations Gillian!

Thursday night was the Mt Carmel Academic Awards evening at the church. Gillian picked up her honours award for her Grade 10 year. Here she is with Amanda and Veronica.

Gillian with Rochelle.

Cross Country Claudia

Claudia ran in the Mississauga North Family of Schools Cross Country Meet at Erindale Park. She had been practicing during lunch for the race. It is the first time she has run cross country. She finished 67th in the Grade 6 girls age group. Congratulations Claudia! Here she is crossing the finish line.
