Survey Says!

Just before the mail strike, a survey came in the mail from our financial advisors office. Not one to usually fill these things out, I took the time to fill it in and mail it back. Partly because it was from his son who is working in the office for the summer and it looked like it was his project for the summer.

Fast forward to today and I picked up the mail. There was another envelope from their office, when I opened it up there was a $100 gift card for The Keg. Sweeet! The letter said I was one of the five surveys chosen to receive the gift card, so either it was my lucky day or they only received five surveys back.

Some video from the first qualifying session at yesterday’s Free Friday.

Great Day at Toronto Indy

It was hot and sunny down at the Toronto Indy, there is lots to see and do, here are Gillian and Brittany sitting in the motorized Target shopping carts.

One of the freebies they were giving out were reusable folding shopping bags with the Target logo on them. Claudia and Angela checking out the shopping cart. I don’t think it was bigger than the one we found in Parksville, BC a couple of years ago.

One of the best things about the Free Friday at the Toronto Indy is that it allows you to get up and close to the cars and drivers. The main grandstand overlooks pit lane and as the cars come to pit lane, the drivers come down pit lane either by foot or by scooter. This is Takuma Sato of Japan.

Here is Mike Conway of Great Britain. There are three Canadians in the race and only four Americans out of the field of 26 cars.

We left the qualifying early so we could get a good spot where they pass on the way back to the Paddocks. Last year we were on the news (okay so we were in the background) while we watched the cars and drivers go by. Here is two time winner, Paul (The Thrill From West Hill) Tracy’s car.

The Paddock area is where all the racing teams have their trailers and trucks set-up. It is where the teams will do the set-up work on the cars and where the drivers hang out in their trailers between qualifying runs. Firestone is the official supplier of tires for the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Chalk River Site Visit

I did a short trip up to our Chalk River, Ontario site this week to fix some equipment. The site is located on the AECL property, security is tight, no cameras are allowed on site. I headed up on Wednesday to overnight in Pembroke and then on to the site Thursday morning. On the way back to Toronto Thursday, the van I was driving broke down in Northwood, ON. It turned out to be the main grounding cable broke/corroded off the terminal, so it wouldn’t allow me to restart the engine after stopping to gas up. A mechanic from Cloyne was able to diagnose the problem and get the van started using a some of vise grips, it allowed me to get to their garage where the grounding cable was replaced.

Soccer Photo of the Week

Here is my soccer photo of the week from Claudia’s game on Monday. I didn’t make it back in time for Angela’s game on Thursday, but she had a great game. Claudia played goal again for about half of the first half.

Rainwater Ribfest

On Sunday we got together with our neighbours for our first annual Rainwater Ribfest. Lars did up some smoked ribs and chicken in an electric smoker. We had tried it out a couple of weeks ago and we planned on the long weekend. Susan made some pulled pork in the crock pot.

So much food!

We also had potatoes, corn, and chicken wings.

More food!

And still more food!

Claudia said it’s kind of funny that we called it “Rainwater” Ribfest when it was only our two families, to which I replied “we are Rainwater!”.

Out to Lori and Dale’s

On Saturday we headed out to Hamilton to Lori and Dale’s place. The girls were looking forward to swimming and seeing their cousins. Here is Alex using his muscles to pump up an inflatable.

Angela’s Shutout Half

Thursday night was Angela’s league game, there were only 9 girls at the game, so there was a lot of room and running. Angela played goalie the first half and held the other team scoreless.

Angela

Here she is making one of her two saves.

She has a good drop kick and can get it down the field, on this one she got an assist on their second goal. They ended up winning 3-0.
