This past weekend I put up a new bird feeder in the back maple tree. It has been slow trying to attract the birds away from the neighbours many feeders. We didn’t see a single bird on the weekend, even the squirrels were ignoring it. Finally on Monday while I was bbq’ing a cardinal stopped by, yesterday were some finches and today I had my camera out.
Look over here.
It was so good she brought her mate back with her.
We needed some dead branches trimmed on the maple tree so Claudia volunteered to go up the tree.
Chloe got a haircut and a bath. Then she promptly rolled around in the garden.

Some of trees, a little confused by the crazy weather we have had in recent weeks. Here are some of the early buds encased in ice from the storm on the 24th.
There was a squirrel munching away at something in the back garden today. I used the opportunity to play with my Tamron lens. I took these from the kitchen, I was sitting on a chair with the sliding door part way open.
There were times it looked like he was burying things he dug up.
At one point a black squirrel came around and the original squirrel climbed the tree.
The size of the lens is still taking some use to holding, definitely need to practice some more.
Some more photos of the backyard. The benches are from Ikea, we initially bought the single and double and then thought we should get another double, but they were sold out at all the GTA Ikea’s. Last weekend we were down in Burlington at the MEC and we stopped in and there was one left on a skid, they must of just got another shipment that day.
The post in the foreground is the last remnant of the girls play structure, it was a support post for the swing set. I realized the other day that it was also a scratching post for Carla and the one corner is carved out from her claws. Guess it’ll have to stay now.
The first time Chloe saw the Dum Dum statue in the garden she started barking at it, she is good with it now.
I gave Chloe a much needed haircut last weekend, she had a good goatee going, even a few people at the girls soccer games commented on it. Other than the fact she dripped more water than usual after getting a drink, Claudia and I liked it, Angela was impartial, but Susan and Gillian didn’t. So a couple of photos before I trimmed it back.

Our new neighbours that moved in last summer have a lot of bird feeders in their yard. Here is one of their feeders with an American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis).
We finally got around to doing some work on the backyard. It has been a couple of years since we got rid of the girls ship play structure. Last year we had the Region of Peel Fusion Landscaping program come in and provide some suggestions. Here is a before shot.
We ordered 2 yards of triple mix and 1 yard of cedar mulch. It came on the Thursday, after some rain on the Friday, it took half the day Saturday and most of Sunday to get all of it moved from the driveway to the backyard.
A little hard to see, but we expanded the garden and covered with mulch. Added a new path for Chloe for when she runs out the door and straight for the back corner. I’ll try and do some better ones when it’s not so sunny.
We added some solar powered spot lights. Here is a photo of the back at night. Notice our new addition the “Dum dum statue” (from Night at the Museum movie or the Easter Island statue).
I recently bought a new telephoto-zoom lens, it’s something I have been researching for awhile. I found it in stock on-line, so I bit the bullet and ordered it. It is a Tamron 150-600mm ultra telephoto zoom lens. It’s big! Here are some of my first photos using it in the backyard.
