Japan Trip Posts

Managed to finally update the Blog for our Japan trip. It was hard choosing photos for each day, as I took so many. I am going to go through them again, and pull out some theme photos, like food, trains, fire hydrants, videos, etc.

Finally Updating The Blog

I have finally gotten around to updating the blog. I made the switch to a new theme that is more mobile friendly. A lot has happened in 2018 that I need to update, here are but a few:

Messed Up Posts

Did anyone else come across some messed up posts? Shanna sent me a few screen shots from her iPad last week that had some of the photos and captions mismatched.

We only saw one bison the whole day…

Claudia is one of the “4 bears”… and those are “American Pelicans” in the bottom photo.

The bear is looking for Susan… and there were black bears in Jamaica.

Blog Update

After a few months I have updated the blog. A lot has happened, and little time to keep up. Will try harder moving forward to keep it more regular.

Image Wall

I added a new plug-in today called Image Wall. This plugin allows visitors to browse posts or pages by their images, displayed randomly on an infinitely scrollable Image Wall. The images link back to the post or page on which they are attached. The image wall is available on the left side-bar menu under Pages, Image Wall.

Hacked!

The site was briefly hacked on January 8th. For about 6 hours, if you had visited the site, you would have been greeted by something other than the usual Rainwater Rambling. I was able to clean things up and get it back to normal. As a result I held off on posts to monitor the site traffic and see if there were repeated attacks. So far so good.

A New Blog

After a long hiatus, Rainwater Rambling is back on track. The name is the same, but the blog is a little different. I have switched web hosting providers and I am now going to blog with WordPress web software. The old software was called “Blog” and it was an offline product that allowed for posts to be done and then uploaded. It served its purpose, but there has been very little development on the software. WordPress is one of the blogging standards and allows for blog posts to be done from any computer with internet or any portable device with internet. The old blog sites are still available from the links on the side.

A Quiet Month?

There hasn’t been much activity on the blog this month. We have been busy with the usual things, work, school and more work and school. Gillian had her first set of exams last week and she is confident she did well. Angela and Claudia have been working on their speeches for speech arts. It is Claudia’s first time doing a speech, her topic is “The World’s Fastest Things” and Angela is doing “Genetically Modified Foods”.

It would be nice if we had some snow, at least the girls would be out there playing, that’s usually good for a few photos.

I have been busy at work with a hiring process, we have been trying to get everything done and offer letters out before the pro-rogued government comes back and puts on a hiring freeze as part of their deficit cutting. An indication of the job market, for an entry level technician position, we had multiple candidates with their Masters degree, one with a double Masters, a PhD, and a double Bachelor’s degree . One of the abilities we test is “the ability to assemble and disassemble equipment”. This might be the test we use next time.
