Japan 2018 Day 21: Travel

Today we were leaving Japan. We had an amazing trip, enjoyed the sights, trains, but especially the food.

Having breakfast at Haneda Airport.

Japan Festival CANADA 2017

On Saturday evening we went to Celebration Square after dinner to take in the Japan Festival CANADA 2017. Carolyn had called earlier to say they were going down to see it.

Like last year there were vendors, food booths and entertainment.

There were certain food vendors with extra long lines.

We hung around watching the stage, Carolyn, Alex and G-ma were over at Square One shopping, they had been there earlier and then went to the mall. They came back over and we were able to visit briefly.

We were there for the Jessica Stuart Few and the start of Anime North Live.

Japan Festival Mississauga 2016

After we dropped Angela and Claudia off at the airport, we headed down to Celebration Square at City Hall to check out the Japan Festival Mississauga.

The Square was pretty busy, they had vendors set-up around the fountain.

This was one of the lineups for some of the food. There were lots of food vendors and each of them had ridiculous lineups.

We didn’t stick around that long, it was hot and we didn’t feel like waiting in the lineups.

Mississauga Celebration Square

Saturday night Susan and I went to dinner at Brad and Lesley’s house. Lesley is a colleague of Susan’s. After a fabulous dinner we headed over to the new Celebration Square by City Hall. The official opening was last week. This weekend there were a few events to coincide with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) events. The main act was “delhi 2 dublin” a band from Vancouver that mixes Indian music with Celtic music.

On both sides of the stage there are state of the art media screens.

The band was really good, there was a drummer, couple of fiddle players, vocals, guitarist and a DJ spin dude.

A couple of giant balloons were tossed into the crowd.

We’ll be going down to the square more often this summer. On Thursday nights they will be showing movies on the big screens.

They have increased the size of the fountain pool, in the winter it will be frozen for ice skating. They have also opened up the area around the square.

Sunday afternoon they are attempting a Guinness World Record by hosting the world’s largest Bollywood dance class.

The headline act was Vancouver based “delhi 2 dublin“, according to their website they are a mix of Bhangra, Celtic, Dub, Reggae and Electronica with global rhythms and club beats. They put on a good show.
