Soccer Season Over

The girls soccer season came to an end on Saturday, with the goofy playoff day. Although it is house league and they play 13 games through the regular season, when it comes to the playoffs it means nothing. The playoff schedule is determined by a coin flip or random draw.

The girls Purple Team finished in first place with an 8-3-1 record. Rather than play the 4th (last) place team in the first game of the playoffs, they faced the 2nd place team. Our team had 12 players and the other team barely had the minimum 7 players (the game was almost forfeited). In the end with only 7 players, it opens up the field and opportunities for lucky bounces. Add in some incompetent linesman (U19 Girls playoffs and they assign someone who has been doing it less than a year?? Maybe U9 but not U19).

It was a close game that the other team won 1-0, but not without some controversy. The girls played well, Claudia played goal all season, much to the appreciation of her teammates, she went down a couple of times in the last two games after getting run over and I don’t think there would have been many volunteers raising their hands to take over (other than her sister).

Here is Angela receiving her Regular Season 1st place trophy and a special 35th anniversary of the North Mississauga Soccer Club participant medal.

Claudia receiving her hardware. This is the second time Claudia has had Coach Paul and Coach Dean, last time they didn’t do as well. As Angela told them, they were good coaches who “coached” them, unlike some who just show up every week to stand on the sidelines.

Angela awarding the coaches with their medals. Afterwards, they said it was the first time the players have done that.

The girls with their bling. It was the only time they played on the same team and they finished tops at the end of the season. This is the end of Angela’s house league career, she can play in the Women’s Sunday night league if she wants to continue. Claudia still has two years left. Sorry for the blurry photo, at some point my focusing switch got move to manual from auto-focus.

Soccer Season Almost Done

The girls soccer season is almost done, tonight was their second last game, followed by playoffs on August 12th. This is Angela’s last year of house league. It has been a good year for their team, they are in first place.

Claudia has played goal all season.

The other team scored the first goal, but the girls team quickly tied it up and then added another quick one.

Claudia has really improved her kicking this season.

Towards the end of the game, Angela played forward, and she scored a goal.

It was only the second goal of her soccer career.

Here she is celebrating with her sister.

Their team won 6-1.

Claudia has only allowed 12 goals in 12 games this season.

Angela taking a rest after her goal.

Soccer Season

Soccer season is well under way and the girls team is doing pretty good. Claudia has played goal every game.

She has made some great saves.

I didn’t get any photos of Angela due to the game being called. One of their team mates hurt her leg and they had to wait for an ambulance to come to cart her off the field to the hospital.

Soccer Light

A couple of weeks ago there was a funky sun/sky at the girls soccer game. These were taken with my BlackBerry.

Another Season Done

Claudia finished her soccer season on Saturday. Her team finished second during the regular season out of 8 teams. They won their first playoff game Saturday morning by default, the other team only had 6 players. With Angela moving into residence, we were unable to watch the semi-final game, one of her teammate’s parents drove her to the game. It was a close game in which they fell short 1-0, Claudia said the goal came off a corner kick. She had a great season playing goal for most of the year, she only let in about 10 goals with a few shutouts.

Wide Angle

I bought a new lens this week, it is a Sigma 10-20mm ultra-wide angle lens. Here a couple of my initial shots with it.

Soccer Game Called

Angela’s soccer game was cancelled due to heavy rain and lightning. We made it to the field and then ran for the truck. We sat in the truck while waiting for the referee to call the game. This was the sky just before the storm rolled in.

Claudia’s Final Soccer Game

Claudia had her last soccer game on Wednesday. Her playoffs were this past Saturday, but we were going to be on vacation, so she missed it. She played goal the first half.

From what I heard she also had a great game in goal last week and kept her team in the game. Even the referee commented on how well she did after the game.

In the second half she played defence.

Angela’s Final Soccer Game

Today was Angela’s final soccer game of the season, it was the playoffs, with only four teams this year, it was lose one and done.

This is how close my telephoto lens can get the planes in the sky from my lawn chair on the field.

It was a close game early on, but by half time, the other team was up 2-0.

Angela played defence the entire game.

Lots of of pushing and shoving going on throughout the game. It almost looks like they are doing the 3-legged race. I think the final score was 4-1.

The Girls First TFC Game

We headed down to BMO Field at Exhibition Place on Saturday afternoon in the scorching heat. A group from Susan’s office organized the tickets. I have been to a few games with Stam, but Susan and the girls had never been to one. The south end of BMO Field.

There are a number of Pan Am events at Exhibition Place. To the south was the temporary Beach Volleyball stadium. The stadium was packed to see Canada lose to Mexico 2-0.

We only arrived at our seats about 40 minutes before the game, but not much going on around us. We were early enough to get the free Atomic Ant t-shirt (in honour of Sebastian Giovinco).

TFC took the lead at the 29th minute and then quickly followed it up with another goal at the 32nd minute.

Those people in the south end were singing and chanting and flag waving for the entire 90 minutes.

The announced attendance was 25,032, but it looked like far less than that.

It was a good game. I can’t wait for them to re-configure the stadium to accommodate the Toronto Argonauts. It will be good to see them in the open-air stadium.

The game ended 2-1 for Toronto. The Philadelphia Union scored a late goal in extra time. Due to the Pan Am games, they only had two gates open for the game, which meant 25,032 people were all exiting the same way.

I’m guessing this guy was over in the south end for the game. Here he was trying to get the fans going again.

When we came up the on the other side, it was more chaos as the train had come and people were trying to cram on.

If we had enough time we could have got further down to the back of the train and got on easily, but we ended up waiting for the next train.

Notice the one side of the door is closed, the guy in red was holding the door open and trying to get both of them on.

They did manage to get on, but was it worth it?
