Claudia’s Soccer Game

Wednesday evening was Claudia’s soccer game, she played mid-field for the first half and played well. Her ball control was really good in this game, I heard the guy next to us tell his wife that number 7 is so smooth when she receives the ball. She played goal in the second half. Here is the only goal she let in, on a free kick, it was just the right arc and height to go over her outstretched hands.

Angela’s Soccer Game

I was able to see half of Angela’s soccer game this week. Claudia also had soccer practice so I had to drop her off and then drive down to watch Ang before heading back for Claudia. I brought my big lens, much to Gillian’s dismay, my paparazzi lens as she calls it. Here are some action photos I got of Angela playing goal. I’m still getting use to the framing with such a big lens. This ball just made it over Angela’s outstretched arms for the first goal.

Canada Cord

Claudia received her guiding Canada Cord to wrap up her three years in Pathfinders. She also has her Provincial Recognition Ceremony coming up in a couple of weeks.

Next year she is off to Rangers with Angela. It will be an exciting year as their group will be heading to Germany and Switzerland for 2 weeks.

She also received her Pathfinder Citizenship Certificate.

After the ceremony we headed off to the soccer field for Claudia’s first soccer game.

Soccer Season Done

The girls finished their soccer seasons on the Saturday. Claudia played in a quarter final game. Unfortunately they lost 2-0. Here she is shooting on net.

Angela’s team had a bye to the semi-final game. She played goal the entire game.

They faced the undefeated orange team. Halfway through the second half the coaches on both teams got into an argument. Orange, as they have been all year were running up the score in a shortened game. The halves were only 25 minutes long.

Angela kept it close and played a very good game. Her defence didn’t provide much help on this day.

Claudia’s Soccer Game

Wednesday nights are Claudia’s soccer games. With all my travel this spring/summer I haven’t been able to catch to many of her games. The last game I took her to only Claudia and one of the coach’s daughters showed up. It was a rainy night, there were exams and grade eight graduations going on.

Claudia played forward and mid field.

Here she is trying to clear the ball from the front of her goal.

Her team took the early lead 1-0, but the yellow team tied it up on a sloppy play in front of their own goal.

Angela’s Clean Sheet

Angela played keeper tonight at her soccer game and had a clean sheet. Here she is making an early save in the first half.

The ball had just rung off the crossbar after a corner kick for the red team.

Angela’s team only had 9 players, the red team had 17 players, by the end of the second half they were getting tired. This action was from another red corner kick, Angela bobbled the initial play.

She recovered to grab the ball but in the process took a knee to her shoulder. It was a great game for Angela and they won 2-0.

World Cup

We have been following the World Cup group stage games and the girls have been watching whenever they can. We watched the Japan vs Ivory Coast game outside in the backyard along with a fire.

It was pretty good, except for the final score. Ivory Coast beat Japan 2-1.

Another Soccer Season Done.

Claudia and Angela finished their soccer seasons on the weekend. Angela’s team fared better this year, her team won the regular season and made it to the finals. Claudia’s team wasn’t as successful, going 1-8-2. There was a little imbalance in her league with two teams running up the scores each week.

Even though they were knocked out of the playoffs they continued to play “friendlys” during the remainder of the playoff schedule. The last couple of games Claudia was playing keeper. She played the second half of the final game.

Claudia has a great drop kick and can almost clear it to the mid-field.

Here she is making one of her few saves, she held them scoreless in the second half.

I keep suggesting she should play keeper, but she likes playing out. She scored three goals this season.

They lost the game 2-0, but it was close and still entertaining.

In the afternoon, Angela was playing in the finals.

Angela’s team went 9-1-1 through the regular season and then won their quarter and semi final games. The quarter final went to a shoot-out.

Angela enjoys playing defence, but a couple of times she played mid and even forward. She scored the first goal of her career this season.

Angela doing a throw in.

The other team took a first half lead and Angela’s team had their chances. They finally tied things up before the half was out.

Angela’s team kept pressing.

In the second half Angela played keeper. She got run over by an opposing player and she was down for bit.

She bounced back and took the kick.

Angela has a good drop kick as well.

There were a few close calls.

With about 2 minutes left and the score tied 1-1, Angela’s coaches switched goalies and put the first half goalie back in. In the event of a shoot-out it had to be the goalie on the field. Her team was awarded a penalty kick just outside the box and the keeper took it, she was able to get it through the crowd and it bounced in off of one of the opposing players in to the net for the lead.

Celebrating the goal.

About a minute later the ref blew the whistle to call time and Angela’s team had won the finals.

Angela had great coaches this year. His daughter is only 14, so will be in the same age grouping next year as Claudia, hopefully Claudia gets Angela’s coach.

Soccer Season

Both Claudia and Angela are well into their soccer seasons. Claudia has scored two goals, but have yet to win a game. Angela’s team is faring better but the coach is a little intense, he is trying to do two practices a week for house league.

Some crazy parents out there, one of the opposing parents at one of Angela’s game was warned by the ref that they would be ejected if they kept up their comments from the sidelines.

Soccer Friendlies

Claudia and Angela had their last soccer game of the season on Sunday. They changed the playoffs this year and went to an elimination style. Both of their teams were eliminated, but all of the teams played a friendly on Sunday. Claudia’s game was at 9:00 am bright and early.

Unfortunately they lost 2-1, with the help of some shoddy refereeing.

Angela’s game was at 1:45 pm, she was heading the ball left right and centre.

That’s the ball coming off of her head.

This photo was more by accident, then by design, but I think it looks pretty cool.

Angela’s team won their game 2-1.
