Gillian is headed to Ottawa this fall, she has accepted a co-op work term at Spartan Bioscience. According to their website, “Spartan brings complete sample-to-result DNA testing systems to medicine. Spartan’s technology fully integrates DNA collection, extraction and analysis, with an intuitive interface that is easy to operate. For the first time, healthcare providers and their patients can get DNA results on demand“. It also says “There is such a thing as a free lunch after all.” There is a company lunch every Friday.
Off She Goes…
We dropped Angela off at University today. It was her move in day for Brandon Residence, the same one Gillian lived in in first year. Here she is with all her stuff.
A sign on campus for students, maybe they should have had a beer bottle in the guys hand.
This one’s a little blurry, we were being rushed out of the building, she got most of her things settled. Her roommate had already arrived. She has a week of orientation before classes start on the 6th. She is enrolled in the Kinesiology program.
Congratulations to the Girls!
Congratulations are in order for Gillian on getting a co-op job with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada this summer. Thanks for Grandma and Papa for driving her to the interview last week. The job is in Vineland.
Angela received another university offer, this one is from the University of Guelph in the Bachelor of Science Human Kinetics program.
Claudia received all A’s on her first semester report card. Another job well done!
University Fair
We headed down to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Friday with Angela and Claudia for the annual University Fair. When we got down there around 10:45 the line-up was pretty long. We managed to by-pass most of the line and got in quickly. Angela has narrowed down her options of which universities and programs that she is interested in. The next step is to visit some of the campuses over the next couple of months.
University Fair
Susan and I took Angela down to the University Fair at the Metro Convention Centre to get her thinking about post secondary education. This year we took the day off work and went down on the Friday in hopes the crowds would be smaller. The year we took Gillian, we went on the Saturday and it was packed. We got there for the 10:00 opening and were able to walk around and not fight the crowds.
Move In Day
It was move in day for first year students, Gillian’s allocated time was between 12-4 pm. It’s a lot different than 28 years ago when Lori and Dale dropped me off on Labour Day monday. You drive right up to the residence, all the belongings have to be labelled with name, residence and room number. You get out and they have student reps carry everything up to your room. Gillian and Susan went to get her key while Angela and I parked the car. Angela wouldn’t get out of the car with all the crazy students swarming it. Gillian is in a double room in Brandon Hall, it was an all girl residence when I attended, but like almost all of the residences now, it is co-ed.
Gillian all unpacked, kind of, she’ll need to go through what we unpacked for her and sort it out for herself.
Her room is at the end of a corridor and has a view of the forest. The rooms have a wired internet jack, as well as wifi.
Angela planking on the roommates bed.
