Touring the coast
We took a drive down to Harbour
Breton today. It is on the coast about 70 km south of Head of Bay D'Espoir.
It was a cold, cloudy day, although the sun peeked out now and then.
Harbour Breton is your typical looking Newfoundland town.
There is a fish processing plant in the town.
Looking back at the town.
The area has numerous bays, that are almost fjord like with the high rising cliffs.
Pack as many houses onto the side of the hill.
Stored lobster traps.
Storage sheds at waters edge.
Return to Winter
Flew into Deer Lake (just east of Corner Brook) today and was picked up by one of
our inspectors at the airport. We drove to Grand Falls-Windsor for the night and
then it's onto our site down in Head of Bay D'Espoir tomorrow. There is still snow
on the ground and it was blowing snow for most of the drive.
I was able to connect with the girls this afternoon on MSN. I can see the girls
on the webcam and we can talk to each other.
LightHouse Route
Took a detour off of the 103 on my way to Dartmouth this afternoon. Staying the
night there before catching a flight to Deer Lake tomorrow. Drove a part of the
Lighthouse Route along the South Shore.
A lone bird swimming in the water.
My ride for my time in Nova Scotia. It is a Mitsubushi Endeavor AWD.
Along the route is the Swiss Air Memorial Site. It is a memorial for the Swiss
Air Flight 111 crash in 1998.
The Memorial Wall.
Inscription on the wall.
A map of the area forms a triangle, the crash site and the two main communities
that were involved. The memorial site is in Bayswater.
The base of the memorial forms a triangle. The line leading into the photos points
to the crash site and the diagonal line points to the community of Whaleback.
Some of the remains are buried here.
One of the beaches across from the memorial site.
Picked up some sand for my collection.
Boats in one of the many coves along the route.
Traps?
Typical colours in these communities.
Freshly carved sticks for something.
On The Road Again...
I'm off to the east coast this week to a couple of our sites. I'll be at Kejimkujik
for a couple of days and then it is over to Newfoundland for a return trip to Head
of Bay D'Espoir.
When I arrived in Halifax, there was a girl holding a sign that said Wendel Clark,
Dale Hawerchuk. Sure enough the two of them came down the escalator. They were in
town as speakers at some job fair.
