It was a cold and windy week...

Even though the temperatures warmed up towards the end of the week, the winds got stronger. It was a southeast wind, so it wasn't a cold wind, just annoying when trying to work outside.

The sky to the west looked like this.

The sky to the east looked like this.

Our site is located at the Baseline Surface Radiation Network station, basically in the middle of a farmers field..

Spoke to soon

I guess I spoke to soon, this morning there was frost on the windows. And since the rental had no scraper I had to wait for the defroster to do its thing.

It was a chilly morning, with the wind chill it felt like -11°C. Here is a photo of the van's temperature reading.

A few pictures of the early morning sky on the prairies.

I'm driving a Pontiac Montana this week.

It clouded over this afternoon, so there was no sunset.

A fall day on the prairies

It was a cool fall day on the prairies, I'm sure if there were some trees here they would have a hint of colour. There is the smell of the burning flax piles in the air.

No scraping...

Even though the temperature difference between Regina and Toronto is about 20°C, there is one positive note, I haven't had to scrape my windows in the morning. It is cold, according to the van I'm driving, it was -2°C this morning on the way to the site. Like the guy on the radio said, he can't believe that it's already time to start adding the plus and minus to the temperature forecasts.

Oxy moron...

I took this picture while waiting for my fast food at the drive-thru at A&W on Albert St in Regina. For one the food wasn't fast and even though there was only 1 car in front of me, it certainly wasn't a drive-thru. Proof of this was the fact that I had time to dig around the van for my briefcase and pull my camera out and take the picture. I know other places have similar spots, but I don't recall them being labelled like this, usually they have a sign indicating 1, 2 or 3.

Snowing?

When I landed in Calgary it was snowing! Not a lot but it was snow. Made it into Regina with no problems. Things I have learned while flying, don't ever sit in seat 8F on a WestJet 737-700 series plane, there is no window. If you fly on a CanJet 737-500 series don't sit in seat 6F, same deal.

Off to the hinterland...

Sitting in Terminal 3 waiting for my flight to depart. While the forecast in Toronto is calling for highs of 26° to 28° C this week. A quick check of the Regina forecast last night was calling for a high of 9°C and a chance of flurries on Tuesday. Although that is balmy compared to being in Alert. Probably a good thing that my trip to Alert was canceled, I heard that the people who did go up didn't arrive until the Saturday, their flight out of Trenton kept getting delayed.

I have found that this blog format is easier to keep the girls up to date while I am away.
