Report Cards

Once again all of the girls did a great job on their report cards. Gillian continues to keep the “switched at birth” theory alive with the marks she gets. She works hard and deserves them, keep up the great work Gillian!

Angela, as noted on Wednesday night also had a terrific year! Well done Angela! Good luck in grade 9!

Claudia also had a great year and worked hard. She received the Learning Skills and Work Habits award at the 2nd term awards assembly. Congratulations Claudia! Thanks to Jim Carr for the photo of Claudia.

Common Cement

Today was Angela’s grade 8 graduation. Fortunately there were some delays with the planned renovations/construction at the Church, so they were able to move the graduation back to the Church from the school gym. The title of this post comes from Ellen Degeneres 2009 commencement speech at Tulane University, it’s a funny speech.

Claudia, Angela, and Gillian. Claudia was singing in the Grad Mass choir, she did an excellent job.

A nice family photo (Grandma Swan was behind the camera).

She almost looks taller than Susan.

Ready for a busy evening ahead. There was a Graduation Mass presided over by Father Abraham, followed by the ceremony.

Waiting for things to get started.

Mrs Foster was the MC for the graduation ceremony.

The school principal, Mr. Araman.

This guy needs to get a camera, I didn’t get a picture of the other guy taking pictures with his iPad.

Angela going up for her diploma.

Receiving her Honours medal.

Angela and Mr Araman.

Angela was the recipient of the St Richard Student of the Year Graduate award.

Here she is with Mr Araman and her Grade 8 teachers, Mrs Jordan and Mrs Lang.

Angela was also chosen to give the Valedictorian Speech for her class.

Here is Angela’s speech. Thanks to Gillian for holding the camera for the entire speech.

Angela with her peanut/nut free cake from the Sweetness Bakery in Dundas. Thanks Grandma!

Congratulations Angela! A job well done! We are very proud of everything Angela accomplished this year and for the past 10 years at St. Richard. She has worked hard and has turned into a fine young lady. Thank you Angela!

Angela’s poem

Graduation is here,
There is nothing to fear
It is not the end
But new beginnings are near

We remember the new
We remember the old
We remember the people who taught us to be bold

Do not cry
For your dreams will fly
And I don’t want you to say good-bye

Close to your heart
Memories will stay
And starting today

We will collect new gems
And meet new friends

But never forget
Our elementary years
Because graduation
Is finally here

Angela’s Grad Dance

After 10 years at St Richard’s, Angela is graduating this week and heads off to Mt Carmel in the fall. Today was their Grad luncheon and dance. Gillian took some photos of Ang before she left.

Always putting her chores ahead of fun.

Back to the Blog

After an extended hiatus from updating the blog, I’m back at it. I’ll fill in the blanks between March and June. Not that anything interesting hasn’t been going on, things have been busy with the girls, work and the usual interruptions. Things are winding down with the girls school year, Gillian starts exam this week and Angela graduates from grade 8 next week.

Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s.

Claudia’s Recital

There was a student recital for The Guitar World. Students could sign up and play in the recital. Claudia’s teacher talked her into doing the recital, he was going to try and find someone to sing with Claudia. When we showed up, she wasn’t sure if she would be playing, but her teacher found another student who agreed to sing with Claudia.

There were guitar, vocal, and piano students. Angela was at Pathfinder camp this weekend so she couldn’t participate. This kid played Detroit Rock City by KISS on his electric guitar.

It was held at Heritage Glen, a retirement residence in Meadowvale. There were a few residents in the crowd, and Claudia said one of them wasn’t that kind with their words when one of the piano students messed up her piece.

Claudia played “Mean” by Taylor Swift. Another girl who was performing two songs at the recital (one of which was another Taylor Swift song) agreed to sing with Claudia. Here is Claudia, Natasha, and Claudia’s teacher Dion. Claudia did a great job, well done!

At the end a bunch of Dion’s students played some Blues, by the end a couple of the other teachers came up and were jamming together.

It was a good afternoon, this was the third recital that Guitar World has done, Angela said she would play at the next one.

The owner of Guitar World, Jim Toris. They will be having their 10th Annual Rock n Roll Party in the parking lot on Sunday August 26th.

Happy Birthday Claudia!

Claudia turned 12 today.

It was a good birthday week for Claudia.

Jays Game

We headed down to the Blue Jays game on Sunday. It was Brandon Morrow Bobblehead Day against the New York Mets. The crowds weren’t as busy as last year when it was Robbie Alomar Day.

This guy had a baseball hat on, no really it was a baseball hat, his sister had Mickey Mouse ears with a baseball theme.

It was a great day and the roof was open. Our seats were in the fourth row in the 500 level and it just so happened that the bank of lights shielded us from the sun all afternoon.

We met Carolyn, Danny, Alex and Emi at the game, they had bought the tickets next to us.

It was a good game.

Encarnacion went 0-5 with 2 strikeouts.

Jose Bautista hitting his 11th home run of the season.

Can you see Claudia on the big screen?

Unfortunately the Jays came up short and lost 6-5, the attendance was 41, 857, the bobble heads were given out to the first 20,000.

Elvis outside the stadium.

The final box score.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to Susan and all the Moms.

May @ MAC

McMaster University had an open house this weekend for prospective students. It is geared towards those students who have received offers and need to make up their minds or visit the different residences. We took Gillian to see the campus and visit the health sciences program. Angela was along for the ride and Claudia was at Guide camp at African Lion Safari. The girls in front of one of the buildings that wasn’t there when Susan and I attended Mac.

Heading towards one of the new residences (again new to us). Passing by the “new” football stadium. We were able to see some of the residences and sit in on a talk by the assistant dean of Health Sciences. It will be a lot of hard work ahead for Gillian. The girls were able to see the residence I lived in and the hill I traybogganed down in the winter.

We ended the afternoon with lunch at Tally Ho, another favourite of ours back in the day.
