Almost there...
There are only a couple of things left to do. The ceiling needs to be primed and then it will be sprayed with a new coat of stucco. Here are how things things look tonight. Only the bulkhead lights are on. All of the pictures were taken without the flash.
Now with all the lights turned on.
The view from the living room.
One week later...
It has been one week since the renovations began.
Work will continue on the ceiling tomorrow. The two columns are starting to add some character and definition.
The view from the front door.
Day 5
The taping and mudding is coming along. As you can see in the picture the columns have arrived and the one by the door has been installed.
Trying our best to keep the dust to a minimum.
Neighbourhood Watch!
We heard on the weekend that our neighbourhood watch was in action. Last Thursday when the guys started renovations, they pulled into the driveway in a cargo van and a jeep. They were sitting the van talking when one of our neighbours thought it looked kind of suspicious, so he approached the van and asked them what they were doing. They said they were doing renovations at the house, our neighbour then asked them "for who?". It wasn't until the son of the girls care-giver told our neighbour "you know the girls go to my Mom's house?". Thanks go out to Mike for keeping watch.
Day 3
The drywall went up today and they started on the taping and mudding. It is starting to take shape.
A view looking from the front door into the living room.
Looking from the stairs into the living room.
Finally, looking from the living room towards the front door.
I'm off to Montreal tomorrow so the there will be no update.
Day 2
Yesterday was day two of the front hall renovations. It is pretty exciting coming home from work and seeing what has been done. No doubt the same reason why you are looking at this site.
You may have noticed that I have been trying to take the pictures from the same view.
Between the knee walls and the bulkhead there will be a column at the ends.
You can see some of the wiring rough-in for the pot lights in the front hall, there will also be a couple in the bulkhead and then a couple of more down the hall. Below is the view looking from the kitchen.
So far...
The bad weather didn't keep our wall from coming down, after the first day we have a good idea of what we can expect of life beyond the wall.
We walked in today and it was like walking into a new house. What a difference, of course we have been walking into this setup for a couple of years now. The girls care-giver lives in a house that is the mirror image of our set-up. They did this renovation a couple of years back so we have had plenty of time to make a decision.
The design is to add a bulkhead across the top on this side of the window, knee walls coming out from each wall with a 5 ft opening in the middle. Tomorrow they start on the framing. Stay tuned.
Before...
Take a good look, because this will be last you will see of this wall. Starting tomorrow, this wall will come tumbling down.
It is the start of some long overdue renovations of our main floor. Other than painting the kitchen and family room about 6 years ago, things haven't changed in 12 years. We were starting to get tired of coming home and having to wait in line to get in the house. Our front hallway would get squishy when the 5 of us all tried to get our coats and shoes off. Tripping over the vinyl flooring that was splitting down the middle of the kitchen was becoming a hazard. After the front hallway renovation, we are having laminate floor put down on the main floor. We'll keep you posted as the renovations progress.
Updated work blog
I have updated my work blog, I have been to Manitoulin Island, Westport and Nova Scotia since the start of the year.
Sucessful Camp!
Angela and Gillian are back from camp. They had a great time. They ended coming back a couple of hours earlier because there was a power failure up there overnight. There was more snow up there then here so they were able to get some tobogganing in this morning.
Camp Makeewa
Gillian and Angela are off to Winter Camp this weekend. It is Angela's first camping trip on her own. Both of Angela's Brownie group and Gillian's Guide group are going to the same place.
A blog to share memorable or not so memorable moments of life with our
family.
