Happy Hallow'een
The girls had a great time "Trick or Treating". Here are Angela and Claudia
in their costumes.
Claudia doing her "Bat Pose".
Angela looking like a "not so evil" princess.
Gillian went out with some of her friends from school and she left before we could
do the picture. She was dressed as a Hula Girl. One of the more decorated houses
in the neighbourhood.
Balloons and Hard Heads
What started as a fun game of hit the balloon, ended in a classic "It's
all fun and games until someone loses a tooth". Claudia's mouth and Angela's
head collided in what seemed like an innocent bump. Next thing we know Claudia is
holding her front tooth. It stopped bleeding and she has been okay, but we'll take
her into the dentist tomorrow just to get it checked out. Here is Claudia looking
toothless.
Sponge Bob
Finished carving the pumpkin today. Here is Angela transferring the pattern to the
pumpkin.
This is our Sponge Bob pumpkin.
Movie Night
Tonight we watched Monster
House. It is an animated feature that came out this summer. The synopsis is
Three teens discover that their neighbor's house is really a living, breathing,
scary monster. Now the problem is getting other people to believe it so they can
save the neighborhood.
We all enjoyed it, parts of it were kind of scary, but still good according to the
girls.
Coming Soon on DVD
Nov 7 Cars
Nov 21 Ice Age 2 - The Meltdown
Nov 28 The Ant Bully
Pumpkin Phase 1
We got our pumpkin today and the girls were busy getting phase 1 complete.
They scooped out all the insides and sorted the pumpkin seeds.
Claudia digging in.
Gillian playing with the slimy parts.
Angela getting messy.
Weekly Update...
Managed to stay in town this week, I took Thursday off and went on a school field
trip with Angela's class. We went to Crawford Lake Conservation Area, Iroquoian
Village. It has two reconstructed Longhouses and the frames of 3 additional longhouses.
Crawford Lake is meromictic. A meromictic lake has layers of water which do not
intermix. The deepest layer of water in such a lake does not contain any dissolved
oxygen. The layers of sediment at the bottom of a meromictic lake remain relatively
undisturbed because there are no living organisms to stir them up.
Claudia and Gillian had their Halloween parties for Sparks and Guides and Angela's
is on Monday. We still have to get a pumpkin, haven't figured out what to carve
this year. Hopefully the weather forecast improves for Tuesday night.
In and Out Week
Last week I was in and out, I think I was home everyday, but still managed to be
in London and Peterborough. It was a long week of driving around southern Ontario.
It capped off with a flat tire in Warsaw, Ontario. It was a slow drive back to the
office along Highway 7.
The first week without Carla was quiet, no meowing, I think he was going deaf in
his old age and when he meowed, he felt the need to meow louder to hear himself.
Just a theory, similar to humans who start to lose their hearing. We received a
sympathy card from the vet where he was put down.

We'll miss you...
September 10, 1989-October 13, 2006
It is with great sadness that we had to put Carla down today. Old age had finally
caught up to Carla, it was only within the last last two weeks that he took a real
turn for the worse.
Up until a couple of days ago he could still jump up to the couch, this had become
his new favourite spot to sleep away the day, for 16 years we kept him off the furniture,
but recently we had given in.
Carla was born in Ajax and was picked up when he was six weeks old.
He spent his first year in Hamilton.
Then it was back to Scarborough for another three years.
Spent a year living with Coco.
Enjoyed many a day bringing home presents.
As soon as we moved into the house Dad was at the doorstep with Carla. Here he is
after making a name for himself in the neighbourhood as the new guy.
Carla had a good life and was patient with the girls, especially in their early
years. We'll all miss Carla. R.I.P.
Picking apples...
I got back from the arctic last night and the weather for this weekend couldn't
have been better compared to what it was up in Alert. We went to pick apples this
morning, we had to find a new place. The orchard where we usually go is closed according
to their website. Instead we went to Williams Orchard on 3rd Line in Milton.
We were picking macintosh apples.
Gillian taste testing a Mac.
Angela
and Claudia.
We picked a bushel of macintosh apples.
Angela loading up on the apples.
The girls with a full bushel basket.
Not quite the amenities of Long Lane Orchards, but less crowded. Highway 25 was
backed up with cars, most were headed to Chudleigh's to pay $20 plus dollars to
pick and play in their orchards.
