March Break

The girls were at Grandma's and Papa's place for a couple of days during March Break. They went to see Alice in Wonderland with Grandma while they were there.

Port Credit Walkabout

We headed down to Port Cedit to walk around. Susan wanted to go shopping at a store down there so she dropped the girls and I off.

Map

The girls and Chloe enjoyed the swans.

Swans

Chloe was okay with the swans and ducks, it was the sea gulls hanging around that Chloe was after.

I think Angela was taking a picture of the Toronto skyline.

Claudia brought her bike to ride around and Angela had her roller blades.

Claudia

There was a guy feeding the swans and ducks some bread, actually he had a loaf of bread. He offered Claudia and Angela a slice, to feed the birds, not eat as Claudia would tell you.

Swan

Angela was trying to feed a dirty looking swan and manage to land the piece of bread on its back. We thought all the other birds would attack it, but it wasn't until one tried that the swan shook it off into the water.

Busy Birthday Week

It's the start of birthday week for Angela and the end for G-ma and G-pa. We headed out to Scarborough for dinner and cake. First up was Grandma's cake.

We'll Miss Them

It was a sad day for the girls and Chloe. Our long time caregiver to both the girls and Chloe was packing up their rental truck on Saturday morning. Karen has been looking after the girls since Claudia was 6 months old, Claudia turns ten in a couple of months. Karen has been coming over to let Chloe out in the mornings since last September, on some days Chloe would go over to her house for the day. Chloe will miss her buddy Hailey who she would bug when she was there.

Karen and the Girls

Who are we going to get our renovation ideas from. Karen and Ken have the same style house as us, and when they would change something, we could picture our house looking the same, kind of like having our own model home. They are moving to Milton, so they won't be that far away. Thanks to Karen, Ken, Stephanie and Ryan for all their help over the years.

Chapman's Rising From the Ashes

This week I was out near Chatsworth for work, we are installing a new monitoring site at the Kinghurst Nature Reserve.

Chatsworth map

On the way back I went through Markdale, home of Chapman's Ice Cream. Last fall they suffered a fire which destroyed their main production plant. Here's what's the Chapman's plant looked like in July 2007 when we went to the Markdale Ice Cream Festival.

This is what's left of it.

They are building a new plant in Markdale, currently they have a temporary mini-plant operating. So far we haven't had any problems getting ice cream at our local Superstore. They had a good supply in their distribution centre before the fire to carry them through until they started the mini-plant.

Earth Hour 2010

Did you participate in Earth Hour?

Earth Hour

Here's how we spent our hour.

Angela

Angela had a couple of friends over from Guides for a sleepover. We actually had the cake before 8:30 pm and they were done before we turned the lights off. I think they played hide n seek in the dark for the hour. There were no bumps or bruises, so I guess it went well.

Penn State Site Visit

I was down in State College, Pennsylvania this week for work. University Park is an unincorporated community that sits within the borough of State College. Most of Penn State University is in University Park.

University Park map

We have a monitoring site at Penn State University. I'm suppose to go down twice a year to inspect the site, but usually my schedule only allows for one trip. The site itself is about 7 miles out of town on Pennsylvania Game Commision land. A couple of miles from the site is a shooting range, I drove by it this time, and it's just bizarre seeing this shooting range with targets set up and people firing their handguns.

Penn State

State College is the main campus for Penn State. Beaver Stadium is home to the Big Ten Conference Nittany Lions.

Beaver Stadium

This was my ride down. With the government logos on the side of the car and my government passport, it makes for easier border crossings.

Vehicle

But it doesn't make the lines any shorter.
