St. Richard's Feast Day

The girls school had their St. Richard's Feast Day mass at the church. That was followed by the Principal Achievement Awards for second term and the recognition of students "caught in the act" practicing the monthly virtues. Both Susan and I were able to make it to the awards. They started with the Virtues and Claudia was caught for all three. Here she is for the Respect Virtue.

Then Claudia received the Self Control virtue certificate.

Gillian was also recognized for Self Control.

Claudia also received a certificate for the virtue Hope.

Next they recognized the Academic and learning award. Claudia back up for the fourth time.

Angela was recognized for the Academic award.

Gillian received the Academic award. They didn't hand out the certificates until the kids were back at school because they had walked to the church from the school and they figured the certificates might not last on the walk back.

Claudia made one more trip to the front to receive her Art Certificate.

Girl Guide Cookies

It's that time of year again and we received our 6 cases of Chocolate and Vanilla Girl Guide cookies. Susan and the girls went out in the neighbourhood to sell 3 cases. One guy bought a whole case. We still have a few boxes left.

May Contain...

One of the guys I work with brought in this cover from a container of mixed nuts. If there are peanuts in the ingredient list, why are they warning that it may contain traces of peanuts.

New Fiscal Year

With the start of a new fiscal year on April 1, my travel schedule has already started to fill in. Last week I was up on Manitoulin Island and the North Bay area for a few days. This week I was down in the London area for a couple of days. I should be busy over the next couple of months.

Claudia's First Communion

Today was Claudia's First Communion, it was at the 8:00 am mass. Thanks to everyone who got up early to attend. Claudia was worried no one would show up. She has been very excited about receiving her first communion. Ther were four other kids receiving First Communion, unlike when Angela did hers two years ago and there were 28 kids. Here she is sitting with Poppa waiting for the pictures to begin.

Father Abraham did the mass this morning and everyone quite enjoyed it. Claudia did her community worker project on Father Abraham last year when she was in grade one.

The Swan/Tanabe clan. I think this would work better if there was only one camera, then everyone would know where to look, of course that's not possible if there are Tanabe's involved. Andrew was trying to join another families photo because they were better looking.

Claudia's was the last of the First Communions, next year we start the Confirmations.

It was a good day, things went well, the weather turned out to be nice and Angela was feeling better. Thanks again to all of you who helped make Claudia's First Communion a special day for her.

Slideshow

I have been looking for some options to displaying photos on the blog. Thinking ahead to the next trip, I have may have more photos than I can handle, so one option I am thinking of is a slideshow. Testing it out with some photos from yesterday.

St Richard Fog Collector

I was able to attend the FogQuest presentation at the girls school today. One of the volunteers with FogQuest was at the school to do a brief talk on the work she has been involved with and to receive a cheque from the school. During Lent, the student council and the faith ambassadors chose FogQuest as their Lenten Project. With the help of the School Council, they raised $1000.00 during Lent to help purchase a fog collector to supply water to a village in Guatemala. A picture of some of the students presenting Melissa with a big cheque.

FogQuest cheque

When Gillian was in grade 5, I had done some work for the Executive Director of FogQuest, in lieu of payment, I asked Bob Schemenauer if he would give a talk to Gillian's class on a weather related topic. From that talk a couple of the teachers who were involved with the Student Council mentioned at the time that FogQuest would be a cause that they would like to support as a Lenten project. This year they took up the cause and they were very successful. The money they raised will go towards a fog collector for a family in Tojquia.
